    Hello boy & girls,

Do you think we'll see some modifications in the XPS line in, let's say August, September? Montevina is coming up, will this first decrease the prices as the Santa Rosa computers must be sold out? And later, when they're all equipped with Montevina, the price will increase?

I'm most curious about the 1330, but please feel free to speculate also about the larger XPSs.

The 9300GS is the current 8400GS rebranded. It's not an upgrade.

The 9300M G is the same as the 8400M GS. I believe the 9300M GS is a different card and its clock speeds are slightly higher.

For the xps line not to exist anymore. I think there's a 60:40 chance of that happening.

Recent information seems to point this way. Hopefully we'll know more when Montevina comes out.

I think the XPS badge will remain. The question I have is will it occupy the same product slot, or get nudged a little higher into the gaming realm to make a slot for the Studio as the multimedia notebook?

In my opinion, while Dell deny getting rid of the XPS range, you can expect a reduced focus on their 'higher end' XPS machines in the 15-17" range. The reality is that you could get an XPS machine for significantly cheaper than the same spec Alienware machine. Rather than simply pricing their Alienware range more sensibly/competitively, they'll probably focus on Alienware for the gaming machines, and maintain the XPS branding for the 13" and lower-end 15" machines.

Just a prediction. I remember a few months ago comparing the Alienware 15" laptop with the m1530 price-wise, and the Alienware was so uncompetitive it was funny. Paying for the name.

EDIT - Above post makes a good point about the Studio range. That leaves me wondering where Dell could position the XPS range - there's no doubt it was canabalising into Alienware sales, and quite rightly given the insane Alienware pricing.

Dell has already combined the Alienware and XPS design teams. Hopefully this will help bring their gaming line down in price, it is just way too expensive for what you get.

The price they have now is the best I have seen for the 1730. Lots of great upgrades added for the the base $1999. The Alienware is incredibly over priced.

Ugh. Alienware is overpriced because Dell can't put the marketing into it that they want to. That's why there's so much speculation about the XPS line being dropped ( before you start arguing, I'm NOT saying that it will or won't be) in favor of the Alienware. If Dell can market the Alienware as their high end gaming PC (thus getting rid of the XPS 17xx), they'll be able to lower the prices.

The ones that are rebranded will also be on a smaller die, and run much cooler.
