    3 dell 16s: 1st one $1067 with 256gb ssd and RGB led and ati 3670 in 3/2009(sold 256gb ssd alone for $700 on ebay and laptop another $700 to a friend)
    2nd $840 ati4670 and RGB LED in 10/2009(sold $700 ebay);
    3rd $880 i5 540m and ati 4670 and RGB led and 128gb ssd on 6/25/2010.

    i wish i can get one for $450 but bestbuy never sold any xps 16s with RGB led which is a deal breaker for me.

    Considering your current spec, that's one hell of a deal my friend! That setup would have cost me double here in the UK! Nice one! :)

    How on earth did you get that deal? Do you live in states? And how did you get that config...I thought they stopped selling the RGBLED.

    If you look closely his sig shows he got a refurbished model first (that would explain the $985). That refurbished model was then replaced with a very very nice configuration that would normally cost close to 2k :)

    He's right. I got a refurbed system that was throttling. It was replaced with a new system that had a WLED. I lost my RGBLED, but in return Dell gave me the hardware upgrades in my sig. Right before returning the original system I asked Dell if they could send a technician to do a screen swap. So in all I lost nothing but gained a ton. I still have throttling though :(

    This goes without saying, but I had to argue a TON with Dell and talk to several different representatives.

    XPS 1640 for $300 from Craigslist this week. I was stunned and in mint condition. We were just looking for a cheap 15" for home, but could not pass it up. Bigger and heaver that we wanted, but for 300, a steal.

    $713 with shipping, purchased it used from eBay.

    The previous owner purchased it refurbished from Dell Outlet.

    it's my first Dell personally and I think it's a fine laptop. build quality feels solid, love the combination of some metal and leather backing on the lid. definitely heftier than most other 15.4" laptops these days but I'm used to that thanks to my old and replaced Sager NP2090 laptop.

    love the high definition/resolution edge-to-edge styled LED screen. The ATI HD 4670 is a pretty good upgrade for me from the nvidia 8600m GT (which died on me, never buying nvidia products again!) and plays games very well. slot load drive, hdmi, esata and back-lit keyboard are additional benefits. 3 usb ports is definitely too few, though. trackpad is also too smooth and lacks tactile feedback. palm rest area and lid is glossy so it gets dirty pretty easily.

    its crazy how the prices vary. dont think its fair to compare. in april (or may?) when dell had their yearly outlet clearance with 20% off , they had about 20-100 xps 16s with various specs and i5s for 499-599 before the coupon. some people got their 1647's for like 3-400 after all the ing and moaning.

    and then delll sometimes replaces systems for people who call and talk to them for hours. they get some crazy specs too.

    I ordered multiple units so they gave me a bonus. ;)

    You're nuts. You only paid $450 extra for a lot more expensive 2 x 4GB mem modules(200-60 = $140 diff), 128gb SSD($130 diff), and extra 9 cell battery($100 value) along with a 3 year warranty($300+ for 2 yr extension)? That's an awesome deal you got there. I would've got the same if I was buying my personal laptop.

    well, as i stated in a previous post, i called in for the EPP discount. after i mentioned that i was going for the 3-year warranty, the manager of the sales agent gave me a few discounts (wifi, ram), and when they screwed up my hard drive, they threw in a $50 upgrade to the SSD and now the extra battery.
