I'm considering buying one, so I thought I would ask some owners what they think of theirs.
What customizations did you get?
Do you have any problems with it?
What is the battery life like (I'm thinking of upgrading to the 9-cell)?
Thanks.

It's the perfect laptop for me. I work on ships so it's a replacement for almost every electronic device you can have at home in one small package. I considered other laptops but the size, build quality and hardware (chiefly the display and speakers) are exactly what I needed/wanted. The only thing Dell could've done to improve it in my estimation would've been to make a better GPU available or install GDDR5 architecture for the 540, but it's handled everything I've thrown at it so far regardless.
What customizations did you get?
15.6 inch FHD (1080p) B+RGLED Display with 2.0 MP webcam
Intel Core i7 2630QM 2.0GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
8 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT540M 2GB graphics with Optimus
500 GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM)
Intel Advanced-N 6230 w/BT 3.0
Internal Backlit Keyboard
Digital Internal TV Tuner TVT20 ATSC
Do you have any problems with it?
1. One stuck pixel. "Massaged" it and it's been fine ever since.
2. Dell did not install the Sound Blaster software (paid for) and Dell suppport is useless in resolving the issue so far.
What is the battery life like (I'm thinking of upgrading to the 9-cell)?
I only ordered the 9 cell to have it tilt forward. It's been on A/C power since arrival.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I've used the L501x and L502x extensively. Personally it feels too "cheap" and plasticky to be a 1000+ dollar notebook. The B+RGLED screen is one of the best screens for the money, if you buy the XPS 15, make sure you get the 1080p B+RGLED screen upgrade, the 720p screen is abysmal to look at. Also depends on what you are looking for, XPS 15 is not a serious gaming laptop, and there are many notebooks in that range that will a more serious gaming laptop.
I'm also going to move this to the XPS subforum so you will get more views there. -
Mine's loaded. Great laptop for the money. Get one. Nuff Said.

My L502x works great, FHD display, speakers and keyboard are awesome. What is irritating me is that fan which kicks rmp very high when that is not needed, it is short, sometimes often and can be annoying.

Dell XPS l502x is my 3-rd laptop (I had before HP Pavilion and Toshiba Satellite). I use it for about a month and it is excelent - screen, sound, materials of case!
BUT I had 3 problems:
1. Very high temperatures http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/562423-xps-15-r2-l502-temps-only-thread-please-17.html#post7637617 - resolved by re-past CPU and GPU;
2. My Wi-Fi connection didn't work at the battery (only with plug-in charging from AC) but I found the solution - correct power plan to max. network adapter performance.
3. Till now I can't play any modern games http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/585063-l502x-video-hardware-errors.html#post7665806
So I'm dissapointed in Dell: why I have to waste my time and lose some possibilities in full-using PC!?
My config:
Dell XPS l502x 15.6" (1366x768) WLED / Intel Core i5-2410M (2.3 GHz) / RAM 4 GB / HDD 640 GB / NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, 2 GB / DVD±RW / LAN / Wi-Fi / Bluetooth 3.0 / -
I can safely say that it's currently my favorite thing.
-
I'm getting my XPS 15 today so in case I have the same problem I'll give that solution a shot -
I am switching to the larger screen from xps 15 to 17 3D version so lets see how it is
-
I have the L501x..
Had one issue - HDD failure - Fixed
Config:
i5 460M
4GB
640GB
1GB GT420M
WLED screen 768p
Backlit keyboard
Win 7 Pro
Its great for my Gaming and Browsing...
Battery life - with 6 cell -
3Hrs 45min (Only Browsing)
1Hr(Only Gaming) -
