    What does Dell do with Laptops that were returned from customers ?

    Do they go to the outlet store and get sold as refurbished ? or do they get cleaned and sold again as new ? thanks

    They legally have to be sold as and marked as Refurbished or Previously Ordered as New units. That's what the outlet is for. If the computer leaves Dell and is shipped even if it is never opened it's technically and legally used.

    Yes as DaneGRclose said, it in thoroughly inspected, cleaned up, and resold as refurbished, but cannot be marketed as new (consumer protection laws). Think of it as buying a certified preowned car from the manufacturer.

    Exactly! Once a car drives off the lot with a new owner attached to it's ownership it can't be new even if it breaks down 10 feet from the driveway and is returned.
