Does anyone know what the name XPS refer to? A short writing of something? The name of some electronic engineer?

yea i have friends with inspirons and they all wish they had an xps instead like me. It saddens me that the 15 inch mainstream inspirons dont offer any kind of dedicated graphics anymore too :(
