Does it contain the whole image of the OS with factory settings/applications or it just has drivers and stuff on it?

I was wondering that since I never got a OS disk, so how am I supposed to format my laptop to factory defaults when something goes wrong...

Yes it does. You can access it by tapping F8 at the dell screen, when you start the computer then select repair your computer option.

All about the restore system here

So how do I make an image of that partition on a DVD so I can access it by booting into it (just in case that partition gets deleted...)

You can request backup discs to be sent to you here.

I did a couple days ago using that form and got the following response:
It was free, so figured I might as well request them so I have the Windows disc, if needed in the future.

Yup - according to the order status, the discs were sent 'Standard Overnight FedEx'.

Also, Windows 7 has utilities that allow you to make both a recovery disk and a system image. I've made recovery disks for both of my computers, and it only takes a few minutes to do so. I try to make a new system image every few weeks. That only takes a few minutes, too. I've not had to use either the recovery disk or the system image yet, but I'm assuming that they do work.

Kinda sad that they couldn't take the extra 30 seconds to throw the discs in the box. Gotta be cheaper than sending them Fedex Overnight delivery.

Probably trying to reduce costs on CDs and only give it to people who ask for it since there is no point of providing users with 2 copies of same thing (1 on partition + 1 on CD)
