    Hi all,

Just wiped my HD and did a fresh Vista install after much deliberation and boy am I glad I did as everything seems much smoother now.

Most things worked without getting drivers from Dell and no un-recognised hardware in the device manager now.

From Dell all I installed was graphics, webcam & fingerprint reader.

I was wondering though are there any drivers that are better being taking from Dell than from Vista?? (I was thinking about the chipset and things like this.)

    What do you mean???

And what are your system specs, an XPS 1330 or 1530 or what exactly??

In any case, its better to get the drivers from Dell.. Search around with your service tag and also in these forums with the device name and driver as key words and you will hit the latest drivers around.

Remember, some drivers from Dell are not specifically found in your system drivers n downloads page.. so better search around here and you will find them.

For Intel chipset, matrix storage manager and wireless, there are new drivers from Intel (There is a thread in these forum, titled "intel released new drivers") look around for that..

You may want to get the other drivers like bluetooth, sound card, video...

Btw, don't you have the drivers n utilities CD?? Stick it in and get the stuff from there too.. and then you can update the drivers from within windows or by searching on the web.

Doh! Sorry totally forgot my system specs its an M1530: 8600GT, dual core intel penryn 2.1GHZ (I think).

I want to keep it as unbloated as possible everything works ok but I think the intel drivers might be a good idea, and yes the drivers I have installed came from the disk.

Its a brand new laptop and I have all disks its just tht dell tell you on there website that so many things are "seriously advised" or "urgent" when I just dont feel they are.

My laptop was a bit of a dog before the fresh install of vista.

Thnx for the reply tho fonduekid

well, if they say, something is urgent / advised / recommended, I would go ahead and install it (of course not if you dont have the corresponding hardware).. But I do recommend you install all available, latest drivers, for the optimal performance.

Good luck. As for the video card, check in the GeForce 8600M GT Poll thread.. there are links to quiet a few popular drivers there for this card specifically...

Here is a page that is dedicated to the drivers after a reformat to a XPS1530. I suggest you download most drivers from Dell, they support all hardware and software right from the factory, however there are sites where you can get better Nividia drivers, but i personally dont need that so i dont bother, meaning I cant rep them on what i dont know. But Darthsat has been nice enough to do all the footwork with this post, enjoy
