I've seen on TV, some Inspiron models that have interchangeable covers and the chassis looks identical to the XPS 15.

Would we be able to use those covers on our machines? Are they identical in size to our chassis?

I would guess that they are not compatible due to the forward hinge on the XPS line. I have a 14 though, so I can't measure it to verify.

It has a forward hinge too. However, it requires a lid that is designed to fit the back plates, so it is unlikely to work.

Yeah, I searched Dell Inspiron 15 and it took me to the older model I assume. Going to their laptops and searching brings up the new model with the forward hinge.

I searched too and to me, it looks identical to this, but would be nice if someone could confirm.

I'm not necessarily thinking of getting the covers from Dell, but getting a sticker/skin for the xps15, but if the 15r is basically the same chassis, I'm thinking it would open up more options.
