I have a studio xps 1645 and am having issues with the screen. After turning on my laptop, i can use it fine for about 20-30 minutes then the screen just shuts off and I have to turn the laptop off and back on again. At first i thought it might be software related so I formatted my laptop. but during the laptop the screen turned off again and I had to connect it to an external monitor to complete the setup. So I contacted Dell and they sent me a new screen but the same thing happened again. They have replaced the screen 2 times and have replaced the motherboard and a few other parts the last 2 times and the 3rd screen is on the way. If the issue still persists, do you think Dell would offer me a system exchange? because it would be my 4th time contacting them for the same issue.

I would bet that if the issue isn't resolved after the 3rd time they would replace your computer. My old 1640 was throttling. The first time i contacted them they sent out a 130w adapter and changed the motherboard. It was still throttling and after contacting them the 2nd time, they replaced the processor and motherboard. Still throttling so when I contacted them the third time, they offered me a system exchange. Do you have the RGBLED?

Thanks for the reply. I have an RGBLED. The replacement screen still didn't fix the issue so they offered a system exchange.

    Here are my current specs:

    i7 720qm
Obsidian Black with Leather 16" rgbled
    6 gigs ram
    ati 5730 1gb
    500 gb 7200rpm drive
intel wifi (i forget which one)
    windows 7 home premium

Any idea what kind of specs i'll get? I'm assuming exactly the same?

Wow check my signature we almost have identical laptops. But i'm assuming you'll get an identical laptop with the exception of the RGBLED. They don't make that anymore so you'll get a WLED. But if you contact them after you get your laptop, they have no issues sending a refurb RGBLED since your original laptop had it already.

sounds like a software problem if the problem persists even after screen replacements. strange that a format wouldnt fix that.

Yeah I would agree that it's software too if multiple screens are having the same issue.

Don't know what else it could even be.
