I've been starting to see more references about Studio XPS 1647 here and on Dell's site, but I couldn't figure out what distinguishes this model from the others (1640 & 1645). If I'm not mistaken, the 1640 has the Core 2 Duo and the 1645 has the Core i7. What is different about the 1647?

It's not out yet, we expect it to be the model name for the Arrendale proc's (i5)

It would be kinda weird for them to have Arrandale because it has a GPU built into the processor, so the laptop would have two GPUs. Unless they're going to do the "hybrid graphics" thing where you can switch between the two to save power, don't think Dell has done that before.

 To me, it sounds just fine. I don't see any reason why they would skip Arrandale? I mean, I'm sure they'll figure the hybrid thing out, seeing as how some old Dell's used to have it,

If that's true, that means Dell's numbering scheme is based purely off of a timeline and not performance. I mean, if it was performance it should be the SXPS 1643 or something.

Maybe they will support the Core i9, I'd think they would need a bigger adapter though. :p

Would the integrated graphics work as hybrid? I was under the impression that intel and nvidia/ati graphics didn't mix :S

That's true...and, from my highly authoritative Wikipedia search, this isn't meant to be a gaming platform, so they may just use Intel's GPU alone.

Not sure if any of you came across this yet, but I noticed that 'XPS 1647' shows up on the display selection screens for some of the Studio XPS 16s. Right now it just says "HD+ Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1600x900) W/2.0 MP, XPS 1647" as one of the display options. I think they have always offered this screen before (minus the 'XPS 1647' part), but perhaps the 1647 will have a multi-touch display? It would seem odd if a Studio XPS 16 with a multi-touch display needs its own number though.

Here is the link to the system I was looking at. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dydofb3

Page failed to load to above link.

And it wouldn't run as hybrid (ie. use both at the same time). Intel integrated graphics will be switchable with a discrete nVidia or ATI card depending on battery or A/C power such as in current Lenovo T400/T500 notebooks.

True, much like the alienware m15 ( or something like that ), wasn't there something that microsoft was going to release that would use spare cpu time to aid the graphics card?? ( new directx? )

I just got offered a 1647 to replace my 1645 that suffers from an overheating power supply. They said it would be the identical setup i7-720, 4GB RAM, 1GB Video, Blu-ray burner...etc.... They said I would have it in about 4 weeks. That would be middle of January 2010.

I was reading other threads and found a reference that the 1647 was listed on the Canadien Dell website when you look at the Studio XPS 16 listings. Well, they're right. I dug through the configuration and 1647 only appears on the display options like previously stated in this thread. It doesn't say anything else though.

    HD+ Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1600x900) W/2.0 MP, XPS 1647
    Specifications - Monitor

My original setup is 15.6 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p Full HD WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1645
    This is full 1920 x 1080.
