im planning on gettiing an xps1330, however, i dont know wether to get the 5400 or 7200 rpm. Im interested in a lot of autonmy, however, i have already chosen the x3100 AND led screen due to this.
Will a 7200 rpm drive decrease significantly my systems battery life?

Depends on the drive and the amount of wattage. Typically no more than 10 minutes. Many people say otherwise, but really, there is no major difference.

Actually, some 7200rpm drives are more power efficient than 5400rpm drives. It depends on the manufacturer and model. But as Forte said, if it does make a difference, it's minimal.

I would agree, it completely depends on the individual drive. Some drives will be more power efficient then other drives. Not every 5400RPM drive uses the same amount of power. And some drives are just simply more efficient then others.
Personally I love Western Digital HDDs, and have always used nothing but WDs in my computers I build. I was quite happy when I found out that my XPS M1530 had came with a WD 250GB HDD. I personally got the 5400RPM, as the 7200RPM drive was much more money. I am happy with the WD 250GB 5400RPM drive I have, it's not noticeably slow by any means.
What is the battery duration difference between a 5400 and 7200 rpm drive??
