Because my 8400GS is running hot.

75C -> 167F idle temps with vista and aero
    103C -> 217.4F max temp.

    idle: 65c
    in.use: 90c

it IS 100F right now (outside nature temperature), wonder if that affects my gpu temp :)

What program are you using to measure the temps? That's important too. Some report different temps. I just tried i8kfangui and that doesn't detect gpu temp. Which program should I use?

If your 8400GS GPU is running at 75C or even 65C while idle, you have major problems  My GPU at idle is 47C!!!!!!

    Running rivatuner:

    65C underclocked idle
    75C not overclocked idle
104C not overclocked max (2nd scene of 3dmark05)
108C overclocked max (overriding all the 2d and 3d settings, either the mem or the GPU downclocks it from there which is not controllable via ATITool or rivatuner. I won't dare go beyond that)

Using U8kfanGUI, Drop all the temps by around 10C

    Mine all stock sofar

Reads 73-74 at idle & 98 is the highest iv'e got it at max load.

    Those readings are from AtiTool.

Although it sure doesn't feel as hot as the readings are telling me. I mean the GPU hits 100 basically and teh air coming from the cooling is just warm once teh CPU hits 70 the air is Hot hot. and seeing as they are all connected to the same heatpipe seems logical that if the GPU at 70 should have the same effect as the CPU at 70. once im at home I'll get a IR thermometer and see what that reads it as.

    Edit:
with 9 cell battery im getting 70-71 degrees at idle

Also what are the max temps peple are getting for the CPU. Mine is 83 on each core on T7300 running prime95 smallFTT's on both cores

After a little cooling mod, my temps are:
    idle 47C
    Load 70C (with peak 74C).
    I'm not using cooling pads.!

    New laptop arrived 9/2/08

My GPU temps with stock A12 Bios read with HWMonitor:

    66C idle
73C max (I don't game and have disabled transparency in aero)

    With cooler:

    55C idle
    max? (cooler just arrived)

A12 is the current M1330 BIOS, because the most recent A13 BIOS has been withdrawn from the DELL site, another boo boo from DELL. It does not solve the design fault which causes the over-heating of the nVidia GPU , it merely prolongs the time before the GPU burns out. When this occurs, your warranty would probably have expired and DELL will no longer be obligated for repairs. There are many Posts on this subject matter. DELL has now offered an extended 12 Months Warranty to the M1330 nVidia GPU (only), so if any other components are damaged, it's chargeable.
They quoted £67.37p for one piece of the blue Thermal Cooling Pad that fills the gap between the GPU and the Thermal Cooling Assembly. I probably could purchase the whole Thermal Cooling Assembly cheaper.

M1330 with one motherboard replacement, Warranty expired 2 Months. Over-heating with stuttering Fan now occurring.

NB: This quote is inclusive of Postage & Packing.
DELL is such a great company

I believe he means the copper mod which I've done as well. I get similar temps to his.

    42C idle
    57C full load

Copper GPU mod and fans always on low to stop heat cycling, kick into high at 55C.

I volt modded my cpu, currently idling at 23C in ambient of 20C :)

Not monitored it's full load temps though as the GPU is of far greater concern.

I didn't start monitoring GPU temp until after the second motherboard replacement. Using HWMonitor... the GPU is in the 60's or 70's when it is not working hard but gaming seems to push it up to 100-103 which I find quite scary. My son complains that WoW is stuttering (when it didn't before) so I suspect it runs hotter than the previous motherboard replacements. Maybe I need to look at the heat sink to make sure it is fitting properly.

(We mostly keep it sitting on a 3-fan laptop cooler)

that'll do it, unfortunately those drivers provide a false reading, but they're still my favorite because I feel better when my numbers are lower, even if they are fake.
