What is your normal CPU and GPU idling temperature on the XPS 1530?
Mine is 51C for cpu and 57-61 for the gpu.
I am trying to make certain its the same for most people before my 21 days are up. Also I have the 1680 by 1050 resolution screen by Samsung, are they the only supplier of that screen. In a total black background I can see a white section on the screen when looking at it from an angle and from a distance.

around 60 while running some stuff...
    do windowed gaming, you should get around 75 - 80 C ?

assuming everythings stock, just vista update drivers, (156.69), no OC.

These xps's run quite hot so dont even worry. My cpu idles anywhere from 49- 60, the fan brings it down if it goes higher. But my gpu idles around 50. Also when gaming, my cpu goes to 75-80 and gpu to 65 or so. I think you're safe
You do have warranty i assume

it seems this 15 inch model runs much warm than 14 inch vostro 1400, with T7800 my CPU idle temp is only 33C (amb: 25C):

    Hmm. Interesting

    WITHOUT the NC-1000

Idle - Pings at 66c then the fan kicks in to throw it down back to 54c
Gaming - Pings at 81c (zOMG) then kicks it down to 72c (This worries me about all people who doesn't have soem type of notebook cooler

    WITH THE NC-1000 (Zalman)

Idle - 60-61. Nothing moves, strong for an hour doing some web browsing, youtube, flash gaming
Gaming - 65-68. Fan constantly on, no problem with that cooling down the noetbook. This is after two hours of playing TF2 and CS:Source

ALL m1530 owners! GET A NOTEBOOK COOLER. I mean, with the type of chasis, and the 8600gt...Can you imagine how the m15x and any other 15.4in notebook that will run at 8800GTS will run? The thing will explode.

But the Alienware m15X has a 8800M GTX as an availible option.

    Anyways my idle temps are:
    CPU-36 degrees Celcius
    GPU-62 degrees celcius
    HDD-30 degrees Celcius

    Here are my temps:

Idle CPU: 43-58 C (Fan kicks on at 58-60C to bring it down to ~43C)
Idle GPU: 59-68C (Fan kicks on at 68C brings it down to 59C)

    After 1 hour of Gaming
    CPU: 65C (undervolted to 1.012V)
    GPU: 76-78C

I don't use a notebook cooler. GPU temperatures scared me at first, but I guess they're OK since I've gamed for quite a bit without noticing any artifacts or anything. Might make me extend my warranty to 3 years though.

Definately, im planning to extend as well. I thought my temps were really high at first. Still worth it to extend if its such a large investment

Does NVidia have utility to underclock GPU to run cooler and use less battery? Useful if only doing some office work.

I have the T7500 too. For some reason, Speedfan shows it maxing out at 45 degrees Celsius after 2hrs of CoD4. And my 8600GT very rarely goes over 70 degrees Celsius.

Maybe it has to due with the 9 cell lifting up the laptop, so the intake can take air in. But, I'm still looking for the right notebook cooler just in case the sensors are off.

If anyone finds a decent one, please PM me because the Zalman is already out of the running, since it doesn't feed air into the M1530's intake and the Notepal Infinity is never gonna be released in the US apparently.

Pstrisik, NVIDIA's video cards supposedly use something called Powerizer which underclocks it to really low settings when you aren't using it. :p I don't know the exact details or how to turn it on or off but someone will enlighten both of us.

I thought it blased air at the bottom of the laptop (where the fan is), maybe I'm wrong but was just about to buy one before I read this. :(

According to lindstroem, the air intake is on the top left, pretty much right behind the exhaust, thats why his Zalman NC-2000 didn't drop temps significantly.

Ohhh that could explain it. Speedfan shows a much lower temperature for my cpu as well. Could you try using NHC or 18kfangui or coretemp? They all show the same temperature.

:D Thanks for the recommendations, I didn't know about any of those.

Anyways I installed Coretemp and NHC and both are showing an idle temp of 44-52 degrees Celsius. After 20 minutes of just sitting there, it seems to stay around 47 degrees steady.

You have an onboard gpu which is built into the chipset. The 1530 has a 8600GT which is a high performance mobile gpu.

Upon further testing, I set the laptop on high performance and just let it sit there. The temps are as follows:
    CPU-47-51 degrees Celsius
    GPU-54-66
    Hard drive- 38 degrees Celsius

Update: The search for the right cooler is at a stand still. I might just get the Notepal Infinity and hope it doesn't break.

here's a screen shot I took of rivatuner results while idle.. temperature = 69! w.o.w... I have the 7200 RPM hard drive, could this be the reason? It can even jump to 73C just by surfing on the internet and up to 83 while gaming. To me, this is abnormal. If my hard drive isn't the reason, then Dell designed my m1530 wrong.

CPU varies from 43 to 57
GPU varies from 58 to 69

The fan kicks in at the upper temps and brings it down to the lower temps, at which point the fan stops and the temps slowly rise again. This is plugged in and on the Dell Recommended power setting.

    Good question!

How long do we have to change the warranty to 3 years? I just got mine 2 weeks ago. I ususally sell my notebook every year and get a new one though... What is the cost difference between 1 & 3 years?

I realize this is kind of an old thread but it's what I wanted to know about, so I figure gravedigging is better than starting a new one. ;)

Is the Core Temperature in RivaTuner the GPU Temp or is it the CPU temp? And for whichever one it is, is there a plugin to add the other?

I bought a XPS 1530 3 days ago and this are my temps:

    ACPI hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 50°C (121°F) [0xCA0] (THM_)
    Min 40°C Max 62°C

Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T8100 hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 37°C (98°F) [0x3F] (Core #0)
    Min 34°C Max 57°C
    Temperature sensor 1 35°C (94°F) [0x41] (Core #1)
    Min 31°C Max 57°C

    GeForce 8600M GT hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 59°C (132°F) [0x38] (GPU Core)
    Min 55°C Max 67°C

    WDC WD32 00BEVT-75ZCT hardware monitor
    Temperature sensor 0 38°C (100°F) [0x26] (HDD)
    Min 38°C Max 41°C

I noticed that watching an xvid movie the GPU temps went down. I think that the fan is only controlled to regulate the CPU temps not the GPU temps, so when the CPU starts heating up the fan actually works faster and chills both CPU and GPU.
Thats why the gpu temps raises when's idle, because the cpu is on low operation and the fan is also slowed down.
I also noticed that the max gpu temp is always 67°C. Havent seen it beyond the 67s.

These are with system IDLE and without the ac adapter connected. Also over balanced mode.
