Hi, I have a basic understanding of what I can and can't do on my 3D l702x. My main question is can I play downloaded movies in 3D using any program? I currently have PowerDVD 11 Ultra.

Also, I currently have a 900p display and 550m. A replacement is being sent out with the 3D display. If I'm happy with the 550m on high/very high settings, will I see a difference going to the 555m? I plan on playing every game in 3D.

    Thanks for your help!

Well you will see half the fps in 3D. In 3D the GPU has to output double the frames (one per eye) so it cuts your fps in half. This is true of any 3D system.

Yup, so is it worth to push for the 555m in a replacement system? I'm aware of how the 3D works, I just want to know if it's going to create any kind of huge difference? I'd imagine it does, especially once you start getting into overclocking the card.

I was just wondering, as I was quite happy with the 550m. But I'm also coming from a 4670m, so I'm sure anything would look good, even though it played most games at 720p at high settings.

Also, even with the 1080p screen, I tend to bump my resolution down a little anyway, even if it can handle higher. Either 900p or 720p, both look good and you can even run with higher AA settings to compensate for the overall resolution loss.

You'll want the 555m for 3D. Honestly, it still isn't the greates card for 3D gaming. That's why others make you get high-end GPUs like the GTX 485 fro 3D. But, it is fine for videos and such and some moderate gaming. That's what the XPS is geared towards anyway now. The old gaming XPS line is now rolled into Alienware.

The 555m overclocks pretty well though, up to roughly a GTX 460 level. Pretty impressive honestly.

Yea, and the 460 is what comes in the 3D m17x so it can't be too shabby. We'll see, I'm not a resolution so I can probably get away with some decent FPS on high settings.

And I hate to sound like a broken record but does anyone know if downloaded movies can be watched/converted into 3D? I've got a mighty digital collection of backed up DVD's, some of which I don't have the physical DVD for anymore. I currently have PowerDVD11 Ultra and would be willing to play around with any other suggestions :)

    Thanks!
