i vote for the xps 15

mainly because it has a better screen, better speakers, is Quadcore (15z is only dualcore).

With the 15z your paying extra for the thin sleek design.
So for the same money you will get more power from the 15.

I would get a 15, no doubt, but some people like to pay extra for silly stuff like pretty colours or thinner laptops. It's up to you whether your willing to pay more just to get a more trendy design.

xps 15 but for the prices you may also want to look into the xps 17.

    I completely agree!

I just got an XPS 17.
Up until this laptop I was using a Dell Insipron 1525 for the last 3 years and another 15" before that, all of my family/friends have 15" so basically every laptop I have ever used has been a 15" laptop.

Now when I have to do something on my old laptop, it feels like I'm playing with a toy. So small and light, can't understand how I ever used one :p
Having said that though, one of the main reasons I bought the XPS 17 was I wanted a bigger screen because I felt the 15" was just too small for my uses. If I could have I would have bought a desktop with a 24" monitor but atm I have no where to put a desktop so the 17" will have to do for now :)

What I'm trying to say is, a 17" screen is great! So much more space! A big boost to productivity for anyone that uses their laptop for actual work not just play.
But if you carry your laptop around a lot, i.e. to college everyday, a 17" might be a little too big/heavy.

Yes, you do have to weigh up what screen size is right for YOU. The 17 is classed more as a desktop replacement resulting in a fairly heavy and big machine so not ideal for carrying around. If portability is a bigger factor than power which the 17 has more of especially with the 555m but if you dont do much gaming then that isnt a big issue, go with the 15.

Are they the same price? Same size screen (which one)? Any other options?

What are you going to do with it? How important are looks vs performance for you? Battery life? Are you going to be running a lot of multi threaded applications? Would you take higher clockspeed over more cores?

There are so many things that you haven't told us.... and don't listen to people who tell you that paying for things like pretty colours and thinner designs is 'silly'.... be honest with yourself and ask yourself what you really want because in the end you won't even notice the subtle differences in performance since you will only have one of them anyway. What you WILL notice is the regret of not getting what you wanted if you base your decisions on what other people think is good for you.
