Does the OS shutdown, or does the computer just shut off abruptly? If it's the latter, you may have an electrical problem with it and probably are gonna have to send it back

My XPS 17's screen, randomly when I opened a picture or booted up Steam/TF2, would suddenly go black for no reason and the HD would stop working, but the computer was still on/lights and keyboard still lit up. Once I uninstalled McAfee security and Databackup, the problem didn't happen anymore

    overheating is one possibility.

but the cpu is throttling when getting to hot so it must be another component.

or a total lack of cooling does your fan run?

The problem seems not to happen in safemode?
Can it be the software they installed on it.

I cant even do a fresh install because the cheap bast*rds didnt include any disc

Try deleting junk; McAfee, DataSupport, ebay, whitepages, etc. I don't think all the crap they install is compatible with Win 7 64-bit

Be polite, but ask to speak to a manager and raise some cane; they sold you a lemon, and if you press the issue, you may get some kinda priority on your computer. You might get a new one in a week or so

They are sending me a replacement motherboard. I dont want a techinician reparing my computer or sending it in for repairs because i have a brain and i can repair it myself.
I got the parts overnighted and im currently speaking to customer care to see what they can do for me.

you shouldn't have let them send you repair parts. it's brand new..

call up customer support, explain what's happened, then CALMLY ask for a replacement. if they say they cannot, ask them to ask their supervisor. CALMLY. if they still say no, ask to speak to the supervisor. tell them what's going on, then tell them you will except no less then a completely new system. again, be calm, but stern. make your frustration understood, but dont be irate. if you freak out on them they'll usually give it right back to you, and you'll have to call back and talk to someone else. i've delt with dell many times lol..

they should ship you a brand new product, overnighted to you. you just paid $XXXX for this laptop and it was defective out of the box. not acceptable :)

It clearly isn't a software compatibility issue. Most of us aren't having these issues. It could be that these software might be exposing a deficiency in the hardware--if so, it'd be better to get it replaced than simply hoping removing software will fix it.

That happened with me. Dell fixed it no problem. They wouldn't give me any break or money back, but they offered to take it back and give me a refund.

Its definately a problem with the motherboard. I open it up today and did some of my testing. The mother board officially died.

Guys do you think my processor will be still good if the motherboard fried or watever. WOuld it affect the processor? Thank you

    Mike

btw it was really easy to take this thing apart. I will post pics tommorow
