This is my 2nd XPS 15 I've had in a 4 week period and the problems with these machines are absolutely aggravating. First machine arrived first week of January and right off the bat the power button worked maybe 30% of the time and would never go to sleep correctly. It also had serious coil whine issues, and I mean it was pretty f****ing loud. USB3 ethernet adapter also kept disconnecting, which was a more manageable problem. Called Dell, they agreed to build and send out a new machine.
New XPS 15 shipped January 19 (or something like that). Arrived the next day and was pretty stoked that the power button actually worked (the most basic of functions). For the next week the laptop was used on a desk as a workstation of sorts, so the proceeding problems I experienced weren't noticeable. It did however still have problems with the USB3 ethernet adapter disconnecting, so I have no idea what the deal is with that....
So I was surfing the web tonight on my couch, had the XPS 15 FLAT on the coffee table, and when I put the machine on my lap suddenly the trackpad stopped working. Put the machine back on the coffee table, buttons worked. Back on my lap, buttons stopped working. I don't understand how, but there's something about the design of the trackpad where the buttons might stick if not perfectly level.
I am absolutely f****ing fed up and frustrated with this P.O.S. machine. $2,000 and the trackpad buttons stick when not level? WTF?!? SERIOUSLY?!?
A MacBook isn't looking so bad anymore...

From what I can gather, too many people with too many issues with the XPS 15.
That's what happens when they try cramming everything in such small package. All the need for battery saving further provides just barely enough power to components and things start failing.
Funny how 2009-2011 gen machines actually had LESS issues! -
I understand that, but with the latest nvidia and Intel chips and lower TDPs, I can't imagine it's that hard... I mean for the trackpad buttons to PHYSICALLY get stuck when the laptop is moved, that's just a ridiculous mechanical design flaw.
I'm not sure...I mean I really like the laptop and all, but with all of the issues not even a month into owning it...it doesn't bode well for the lifespan of this laptop.
What the hell's wrong with the XPS line?
