Its seems that everyone here is waiting for a fix. What will you do if it never comes? What will you do when Dell says that there will be no more bios updates? Dell says they are watching this forum, here lets see if they care about what they read!

I assume your talking a lot about throttling? I dunno what everyone plans on doing, but i would suggest telling your friends/family etc about the issue if theyre browsing for a new computer. As we here may know about it, but think of all the others that dont stumble on these forums.

Everyone who considers these laptops should at least know about the issue. Whether they decide to order/keep their laptop etc is up to them. As long as they know about it beforehand, but im still going to guess a vast majority of those that order these laptops are unaware.

The list of affected laptops is growing on the throttle updates page.

I think a class action is a great idea.. I for one have kept a record of everything so far.. i think we can easily proove there has been some deciet going on and id say we can also proove that the throttling is intentional ... i think dell has acted so far with a large amount of disregard for its customers and has delivered to me a ford tempo when they promised a porsche. 123 day ago i ordered an xps 1645 and am yet to recieve a "functional machine" 3 hard drives and 2 BD rw's later it still is out preformed by my wifes satelite pro 300m... sad. I paid over 3000$ for my xps and 799 for her toshiba.

If you do read this DELL reps.. i have a few choice words for you and your tech support / sales and customerservice depts... use your imagination im sure you can figure out what they are

The deal is this if they dont fix it then they have sold you a faulty product that doesnt do what its advertised to do, this is false advertising and so you can send it back. There are no, ifs ands or buts.

Its lillegal to sell a product caliming that it works if its faulty, unless you clearly state that the product has issues. I dont know about eveyone else but when I was sold this laptop I was never told it throttled before I purchased.

Mine just shipped and is in transit... but I'm already looking at returning it for an Envy 15. They run cooler, have a better graphics card, and, most importantly, don't throttle. Only downside is that I can't get the ssd and cd burner included at same cost. Otherwise, seems like a no brainer....

Use the habbo hotel raid principle, hopefully that would drill it into their heads that they need to rethink the design.

Envy use intel G2, which will cost $600 each if you buy them alone.

'if'...Its just a saying "No ifs ands or buts about it"

I was considering shipping mine back, but the the nothing looks as good :( and has the same features for the same price. The HP Envy has great specs but looks damn ugly.

Class action takes time, a lot of time. By the time things got moving these laptops would be outdated antiques. I don't think that should make it ineligible as an option though. The fact remains Dell sold us products that don't work as advertised with adapters that to some have posed safety hazards. Several people have mentioned how quickly Dell responds to BBB complaint. Imagine if those were filed en masse?

The problem with the Envy is a ridiculously shoddy feeling keyboard.

Designed obsolescence. This has nothing to do with saving money on adapters. Dell pays the same for a 150 watt adapter as it does a 90 watt adapter! Dell is making machines that become obsolete when they choose. If your reading this your a small fraction of customers that have bought an xps or are thinking about buying an xps. Dell knows that and designs obsolescence into their computers because of it. For the normal user this computer will be a slow sluggish POS in a few years.

Yeah - too much for the SSD drive.

So my XPS 1645 arrives tomorrow.... but the more I research this, the more I'm thinking I'm just going to return it for the HP Envy 15. I know a good amount about computers, but I don't consider myself an expert. Assuming that Dell miraculously fixes the throttling issue, is there something I'm missing about the comparison that would make the 1645 better than the Envy?

The pros for each seem to be:

ENVY: Overall cheaper (about $200 cheaper w/ nearly same config), has a faster graphics card, doesn't throttle, Wireless N card (my 1645 didn't come with one).

1645: cheaper SSD drives (so I'd actually get one), an illuminated keyboard, a built in CD/DVD burner (as opposed to the Envy's external one), slightly bigger screen.

The styles are a wash, as I like them both. The 1645's SSD drive will be a LOT faster, but then again, the Envy has a faster graphics card which has higher 3d benchmarks. Not sure yet what to do. Of course... that's going on the HUGE assumption that throttling will be fixed.

I think atm you get more for your money with the DELL systems, better spec wise, but then again it throttles. I heard that the HP Envy throttles too?

Graphics card would be the main reason for the Envy.

And the Screen and SSD for the DELL.

I dont think he quiet met that.. The envy can be configured with 2 ssd's for a total of 300 some gb for 550.. Where as seperatly the g2's are 600 each? almost like a free one if thats right

I get the envy here tonight, ill let ya guys know how it compares. or at least how i think it compares. The envy has better specs then the 1645, the one im getting anyway. usb 3.0, 5830 card etc etc, and was cheaper. The throttling is only on battery, and is due to the type of battery/battery size used. It was a decision between small and light vs bigger battery etc like the 9cell in 1645..

Ahh right nice... well then throtteling isnt an issue as you will most likely have it wired into the mains when playing anyway :D

As for the specs wow! When I tried to configure one the price went through the roof over what I was paying.

$1600 and thats if shipping is included! for the specs I got on my Dell and the screen res is worse, but that is out weighed by the increase in GPU.

    $1099 for Better screen/Worse GPU

BUT AS LONG AS WE ARE ALL HAPPY RIGHT ? :D
