So, I have a m1530 with the LED screen (which has a 2.0MP webcam).
I can take 2.0MP pictures (3200x2400), but the picture quality is horrendous. (it's very blurry).
I can take video at higher resolutions such as 1280x760, but services like Skype and AIM will compress the video, making it meaningless for chatting. (plus, I can't get 30fps @ 1280x760, but I can with 800x600, which a lower-class webcam can do)
So, what's the point?

The XPS is a premium type model as far as I know, so of course the features on it will be upped a little.
There are more uses for it than Skype or AIM. Maybe you want to make a vlog and rely on a service that has a better compression algorithm. If all you do is Skype and AIM with it, then the 2.0MP is just a bonus, a part of the laptop that can shine more than some of the competitors -- it really depends on who uses it and what for.
Perhaps years and years down the road with new Internet technologies, the 2.0MP webcam will be more handy. By then, this technology may even be "obsolete" compared to newer webcams. -

gloating point... can't have a .3mpix when apple/sony tout 2mpix
like the camera mpix race... u wont need more than 5mpix, but 15mpix looks much better than 5mpix -
the point is, that the webcam is right there, integrated into your screen, THE POINT IS the convenience of having it when you want it, where you want it, and for that simple reason its worth having even if its a piece of **** (witch it isn't!)
also the effects are a nice bonus -
Megapixels don't mean anything at all, hence why a Nikon D40 can rape any 10MP point and shoot anyday with its 6.1MP.

If you make a standard picture 30"x20" then you will definitely see the difference.
Thats why I use a 10mp camera. -

Tisk Tisk, of course it means something. Why do you think that photographs use raw format?
Because it includes everysingle pixel in the picture.

You need proper lighting to make the most out of your integrated camera. It performs poorly at night/dark. Natural light looks best.
DSLR against a standard camera is no match. The lenses on those bad boys will always give a clearer picture. -
I've seen this myself with my DSC-H3. It uses a small 1/2.5" sensor, and if I let the camera auto-pick ISO, anything higher than 200 ISO turns the pixels into a watercolor painting. The only way to make it look decent at full resolution is by limiting the ISO to 100 (the lowest it'll go) and adjust the other parameters (aperture and shutter speed) myself. -
Also, the vast majority of people probably use the webcam to chat on MSN or take 800x600 or less sized pictures, which the 2mp camera is perfect for. Don't forget these are WEBCAMS and not CAMERAS.
If you're expecting a high quality webcam of excellent quality on a laptop that doesn't charge you a penny for it, you got your hopes up for nothing I'm afraid.
My advice to you is to go pay extra (which you would have done for a higher quality one on your laptop anyway) and buy a high quality Enough-MP-for-you webcam and sit that large ball on the top of your screen.
At the very least, the webcam sticking out will give you another reason for complaints -

cameras: megapixels, u just need about 2-5mpix.... the BEST photos come out with a BIGGER SENSOR size, so that noise and other crap wont affect the sensor(smaller sensor, less light hitting each sensor = worse picture)
/end argument here
ya, camera phones(my blackjack II has a 2 mpix camera), but its just crap
What's the point of a 2.0MP Webcam in the m1530?
