These screenshots were taken from a DVD. It is the same in all players, the same when GT 555M is disabled. I have updated drivers. Dell has replaced motherboard and LCD.

In addition to the weird outlines: noisy and muddy shadows also. [IMG][/IMG]

First example is interlacing. Second example is compression. There's nothing wrong with your card, screen, or laptop :)

The Nvidia setting have no effect on the interlacing or noise. The video appears worse on the Dell than on my HP which only has integrated graphics.

Screen resolution different between the systems? This indeed does not look like a hardware issue but an issue with the resolution of the source video versus the resolution of the monitor. If the old HP with IGP has a lower screen resolution, the videos will not look as compressed as on a FHD screen. Have you tried a normal DVD/BLU-Ray disc video (not one you or a friend created, but a store version so as to test the theory)?

You can't deinterlace the video through Nvidia settings. Google something like 'dvd interlacing plugin' and choose from any of the first page results, I'm sure you'll find what you need. As for the "noise," well you're gonna have to play around with your picture settings or watch the Bluray, which is less compressed.

HP screen is same resolution and is only 2 months old. It was a store bought DVD played in the DVD player.

Nvidia does have a Deinterlacing: use inverse telecine setting, but will try a plugin as suggested. Thanks

I have used WMP, VLC and CYBERLINK POWER DVD all with exactly the same outcomes. I have used blu rays, standard DVDs, streams from youtube and BBC.... again all the same blurry/noisey looking.
I have benchmarked using 3D MARK 06 in which i get 11k with no overclocking at all... so this kind of rules out the card being the issue.
I have a feeling its driver issues

Its a complete pain in the

Surley it has nothing to do with the windows installtion? I base this information on the fact my system is triple booting ubuntu, win 7 and Snow Leopard and I have the same problem in all three (and yes the problem was there prior to installing the extra OS's)

Could you upload some non resized screenshots? You can use imageshack.us and check that it's set to "Do not resize."

As you can see the quality looks like its being streamed from on online website. If I ever solve this mystery I am going to cry tears of joy

I think that looks relatively reasonable for DVD quality, besides the last one.

Try go into the Intel graphics control panel and restore defaults for everything in video (colour, noise reduction, etc).

I have the 3D version so there isnt an Intel option. I have even tried uninstalling the GFX card drivers and it looks the same on playback. The laptop just isnt using the GFX card when im playing any video and using the standard VGA options.
I have had over 6 laptops with various quality screens and players and this is by far the worst... not normal
Driving me crazy.
