Pretty much the title. I know there are 4GB single laptop ram sticks out there. If the M1330 is running a 64 bit OS (such as Vista x64 or XP x64), can I put in two 4GB sticks and will they be recognised?
-
I've seen someone with 6 gigs on here.
-
i thought that was for the 1530? or would it be the same?
-
In that thread, a 1330 owner tried, and could not get to 6GB. It looks like the Max is 2 x 2GB = 4GB.
-
Here's the link to the thread that reported 6GB to work in M1530:

Here's the link to 6GB not working in M1330:

And here you may vote for 8GB support for M1330:

I dunno why they have all these stupid things broken on these laptops. First popping issues on the audio and other things and then just not supporting 8 gigs of ram? I am pretty sure one of the best things about vista is how it utilizes extra ram.
-
It's not broken. If you check the specification document for the GM965 it only supports 4GB and is the first mobile chipset to support memory remapping:
http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/316273.pdf
We can be kind of lucky that this chipset has even features beyond its specification. -
And the ideastorm page says that a support for upto 8GB has been implemented in BIOS > A13
-
You are all incorrect. Just go to the Dell website and configure a New XPS M1330 and you will see they sell it with up to 8GB of Ram installed. Simple and to the point.
-
I think the people in this thread are more interested in their own m1330's supporting 8GB. Saying that the machines on the Dell page support 8GB means nothing unless you also support it by saying that M1330's haven't changed much, and hence what is valid for the new machines is also valid for the old machines.

well, the only thing changed b/w those m1330s would be the bios update... don't think dell would spend money upgrading the chipset (hardware speaking) to tout a 8GB memory capability -
Eh, no significant documented HW revisions (unless you count the heat pipe). BIOS update should be the major change.

Why jack up the RAM and price for an 8GB? 4GB should be satisfactorily enough for Vista. Then again, with that option in customizing at the Dell website, it's just stupid to have a chipset not supporting the offered RAM.

toms hardware says 6mb is as much as anyone needs.........at this point....

This thread is NOT about what a recommended size of memory is (but about what the M1330 can handle).
It's not hard to figure out what your memory requirements are. But it's very easy to exceed 6GB if you use a lot of virtual machines. On the other hand users that use those understand those requirements and don't need NOOB advises such as tomshardware advises.
It all depends on WHAT you do. And if you do other stuff and read other webpages, you'll end up with other recommendations such as:
http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=3589&p=13
The 6GB suggestion is a rather straight forward recommendation due to Core i7 plattforms having triple channel memory. Wait for only dual channel capable i5 boards and this recommendation will change towards 8GB (!). Anand and others have already shown long time ago that dual channel vs. triple channel doesn't have a huge impact on general purpose desktop software:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3448&p=5
but latency does have.
Back to topic - M1330 supports 8GB as has been stated many times before:

Just remember to punt the BIOS to the latest version if you haven't yet done so.
Whats the max RAM a M1330 can handle?
