I want to purchase the new XPS 15 (Haswell one...is there a model designation?) or its Precision counter-part to replace my Sony Z 2013. But I'm not sure when is a good time to buy. I know the trend of when is a good time to buy HP or Lenovo (coupons ALL the time~!), but I never really purchased a Dell laptop before -- only desktops in bulk for work.

It seems like there is no sale planned on the new XPS 15 for the Black Friday either.

When is a good time to buy a Dell? How much of a price fluctuation is there on it? I just got myself a Dell Venue Pro 8 and I was pleasantly surprised (wish it had HDMI out though...but I knew that before purchase). I will read through the owners thread to make sure I'm up to speed on the XPS 15 issues before purchase. But any tips on when is a good time purchase would be greatly appreciated.

Everything is always on sale at Dell. :) Back when they offered more configuration options, they'd run a free RAM upgrade one week and a free hard drive upgrade the next, so it generally evened out to about the same price no matter what you were getting. I don't know whether Dell does Black Friday sales, but if they do they would probably take some of the existing promos away (like the instant $50 off). The promos will always be a bit different but I don't anticipate it changing the bottom line a whole lot.

And the model designation is the XPS 15 9530. :)

Thanks for the reply. I haven't found any good deals on it.

In the end, I decided to save some money and go with the Asus N550JV with touch-screen instead. It's a bit heavier...and it has that off-centered keyboard with numeric keypad that I hate so much...but you can't beat the price.

Can the Asus be upgraded to 16GB RAM?
