You can buy an assortment of SSDs on Newegg or Amazon. Check the tech bargains forum for the latest SSD deals.

I bought the Crucial 256gb c300 Sata III version from Newegg. It's expensive but totally amazing. Installing programs and loading programs is super fast. I haven't had any issues at all with the drive....works perfectly. I still have the 500gb as a second drive in my laptop.

Personally, my decision on which drive I purchased would go for whichever drive uses 34nm NAND. That was the C300 or the Intel 510.

-Vertex 3 Max IOPS edition ... if u just want bleeding edge (be aware that there are known driver issues with XPS L702X for vertex 3 series)

    - Crucial M4 though i doubt it will be any faster than old Crucial C300 (except in benchmarks) as 4K random reads and write are not much better i guess.

-Crucial C300 seems a good drive now for price to performance ratio and nice over all performance.

-Intel 320 series SSD... well these might not be the fastest drives but i doubt that many will notice any difference between this and above drives in real world usage (unless u are benchmark sensitive). And intel SSDs are most stable and with minimum issues to date.

I have had Vertex 3 for about 2 weeks. Didn't like it much...
Had to do much tweaks to get it work properly (u can see my post in vertex 3 thread)... and also i didn't find it any faster than my old intel SSD...so just sold it.
With intel SSDs , i never had any issues. Just plug into your system and it's ready to use. No need to do tweaks and all ....

Does Dell supply an OS disk or do you have to buy Windows 7 again to install on the SSD?

Well there is intel ssd 510 series... which is sata III but i won't suggest to go for it because of low 4k reads and writes.
If u want to go for SATA III only, Vertex or crucial is the way to go
