I have the XPS m1730 with PBDA DVD+-RW DS-8W1P. I would like to get a DL/Blueray upgrade. But I noticed many "compatible drive have a flat face plate where at the existing drive fits to the contour of the laptop and the face plate has a curved angle. Is there one out there which is the same?

Did the XPS M1730 ever come with a DL/Blu-ray upgrade? If it did, find someone who has it and find out the model number.

If not, it might be difficult to find a drive with a curved faceplate. Sometimes on desktop optical drives, faceplates are interchangeable. I tried finding some pictures of a stock PBDA DS-8W1P, but some were curved and some were flat. So, I don't know if it was specially made for Dell or Dell just slapped a curved faceplate onto it at their own factory. If they put their own faceplate on, it might be able to be popped off and put on your new drive....

Just go to Dell Support and search through the manual or parts list for your notebook.
