    Hi,

Now that most notebook providers have announced their montevina notebooks, what are dell doing with their xps m1330 and 1530 range.

I would the M1330 with a higher screen res, backlit keyboard and gigabit lan.

You can say that again. I priced/customized one with a blu-ray drive (extra $400 or $500) and the total cost was about $3,400. That's about $1,000 more than I wanted to spend for a 13" notebook which I would use for backup/travel. In addition to getting a 13" notebook, I would also like to get one of the new 16.4" notebooks as my primary computer to replace my current desktop. I'm hoping Dell releases a 16" XPS model (M1640 ?) with the Nvidia 9600M GT or 9700M GT video card and blu-ray.

In that case, I could get a Sony Z and a Dell XPS M1640 (maybe a Dell E Video as well for $400-500, who knows). I don't want to have all my eggs in Dell's or Sony's basket. The only potential problem I may have is with Sony's mediorce customer service, but it seems their notebooks are a little more reliable than Dell notebooks.

Anyway, it looks like Dell is late to the party.

Yeah im also hoping that a new dell 13incher is released by august or ill have to resort to getting a Z.
kinda not liking the thick frame on the current m1330, been stopping me from buying it for a year now or since whenever it was released.

Dell UK have a 12 month interest free finance option at the moment which ends tomorrow...So maybe something new is coming out on Friday and they are trying to tempt people into buying before the end of Thursday so they can get the deal? Could indicate something is coming out 18th July?

my last hopes are on dell that will bring something sexier or even cheaper then the Z, since this seems to be the perfect laptop. my preference would be:

    wxga+ or wxga++
    <1,5 kg
    led backlit
    no optical drive needed ;)
    dedicated graphic optioms

if they stick with wxga they are totally stupid. :(

I'm typing this on a 4 year old Dell desktop, and I gave my M1210 to my friend recently, so it's time for me to do some serious computer shopping. I want a 16" or 17" "primary" notebook to keep home and a powerful 13" notebook to travel with (and backup in case my "primary" notebook fails). I plan to keep both for 2-3 years and then upgrade to two new notebooks with all of the goodies that should be available then like a 256GB or 512GB SSD (at a cheaper price), USB 3.0, QuickPath, etc. I might also get the Dell E Video as something I can surf the web/blog from when I travel close to home. Its small size would be perfect for that. As for money...I have a good job. ;)

same here. my fujitsu siemens lifebook e4010 (built in 2003) died last week, and i need a "serious" laptop now.

so Z or xps1340 (or whatever) could the one. ;)

With the problems that the M1330 had, I might be better off getting a Sony Z, but I may also get a XPS M1640 (if Dell decides to release a 16.4" XPS model).

Sony Z's area also much thicker than the M1330. An inch all around.

    4 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3 Ram
    128 GB SSD
    9xxx series GPU
    P8400 25W, compared to the T which use 35 W
    Faster Front side Bus

They better act quick, because ive seen a lot of other tempting Montevina laptops from other producers.
BTW, why are they so slooooow in anouncing the new XPS?

They want to sell as many of the current ones at the same price still probably. I'm interested to see if they bring anything out on Friday, like I said their finance offer ends which COULD mean something is coming on the 18th...But also maybe they would wait until the end of the 10 days of deals in the UK before releasing anything new.

Whats the chances of the UK getting them at the same time? And would they announce it in advance or just release it one day without any notice?!?

For new product lines they're generally pretty good at global launches I'd say but upgrades within those lines tend to be staggered by territory, neccesity and/or demand.

Cool, will have to wait and see when they bring it out. I think the base spec XPS will probably go up to £800 from £589 though unless they decide to offer the current range as well as the centrino range. If they did this i'd guess they will cut off the cpu's such as T5750 and just offer the T8100 or T8300 upwards...maybe....Seems like Dell are lagging behind other manufacturers, plus theres also currently an 8 working day increase on delivery time if you choose the 6-cell battery which is kind of poor imo.

I say its poor because if you buy the 6-Cell or 9-Cell for 1530 seperately its actually a 2-3 day wait for the 6-cell but 3+ weeks wait for the 9-Cell....I think they are offering free upgrades to the 9-cell though instead of charging during this period
