I've had an XPS M1530 for about 1 1/2 years now and still love it.

My friend is planning to purchase a Studio 16 and has asked for some help configuring it. But, I have no idea which display would be best for her. The reviews I've read all laud the Edge-to-Edge FullHD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) which bumps the price up $200. Now, if that results in fantastically crisper & clearer text it would be worth it to her.

However, I wonder if perhaps it's video rather than text that benefits from the upgraded screen. She'll use the notebook to watch a DVD on rare occasions. Blu Ray doesn't matter to her at all. Text is by far the priority.

Any recommendations on which display would be best? Thanks!

I purchased RGBLED for my wife's computer because she is a graphic designer.

The enhanced color range on the RGBLED screen for me is quite obvious even when just tooling around on the internet, or running most desktop applications, etc. It's quite nice, esepecially after tweaking the color a bit (by default it's oversaturated a bit)

That being said, I think skipping it is a completely valid choice, especially since people seem to like the WLED screen quite a bit.

While the colors are nice on the RGBLED, I'd say the 1080p WLED is a better screen overall. Blacks are nice and inky and no bleeding around the edges like the RGBLED.

Oh, and it is way cheaper to boot!

we see all this talk about not being able to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on even a 32" inch screen how the hell could there be a visible difference on a 15 inch screen?

i say just go with the default 900P WLED screen and use the extra money on an SSD or something

    900p makes my eyes bleed.

Im really liking the wled 1080p screen i have. Its far better then the old laptop i used to have, and the high screen res of 1080p really gives the room i like to use multiple apps etc. never will i get a laptop with low res again. Win7 makes the icons big enough etc, but if you have a hard time seeing small things then 900p is probably best, but even the 1080 ya have the option to lower the res if you want.

as far as rgbled, i hear to it makes the colors look awesome. And is probably worth it to a lot of people. The price was just to high for it and opted for the wled. The wled has impressed me as being amazing and clear, so i feel i made the right choice. Now if i did photoshop etc rgbled would be the way to go, but i dont so that was money saved and no regrets as the wled is an amazing screen itself.

Because you are only 1 foot away from the screen.

Thanks for all the responses! I've passed the info along to my friend. I doubt she'll be getting the 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD display.

I bought the rgbled, because it is 16", not because it's rgb.
It reminded me 2 years ago, when I bought lenovo t61p with 15" instead of 14". They share same body too.
