Wait for the new 25nm SSDs (due to lower price/GB): Crucial c400 (ETA: mid March) or the G3 Intel which ever is released first. The Intel G3 does not offer Sata3 but I have my doubts if it's a "must".

Depends on your use. Why do you need SATA 3? You aren't getting +99 FPS in Crysis with a SATA 3 SSD.

I think he wants a sata 3 ssd to take advantage of the speeds the new xps's support. Don't we all want our computers to run faster on everything we do?

I'm seriously looking at getting the Crucial M4 256GB when it comes out (should be out in the next week or two). It all depends on the price though. If it's more than $600, I will hold out for the Vertex 3 to come out later this year. The new intel 510 is just a disappointment, wouldn't use it if you gave it to me. Newegg has the Crucial C300 on sale until tomorrow which is a good deal for a solid sata 3 ssd. The new M4's are only supposed to be around 20% faster, but the updated Marvel controller is solid. If you're looking for high 50K+ 4K Random's and 500MB/s speeds, you'll have to wait for the Vertex 3.

Vertex 3 is supposed to be available in two weeks.

    I asked this on Twitter:
@OCZTechnology When can we expect the Vertex 3 SSD's to be available for purchase?

    And go this response:
    RyderOCZ (Eric Ryder)

@darrylzuk I would think you should see them at retailers before the 21st if things go well with testing.

I concur with daz. The OCZ Vertex 3 got great reviews (Google it, I can't remember where I saw it), and there's not a big price premium over the Vertex 2. The Intel 510 is out now, but I've heard it's not quite as fast as the OCZ.

Does anyone know how the OCZ Vertex 3 will compare to the Crucial c400?

The Vertex 3 is going to easily be king of the SSD's for a while, with Sequential speeds of 500MB/s as well as writes, all with over 50K+ Randoms, which matters more than Sequential speeds anyways. It is my first choice, but I thought it was a few months away from deployment, hence why I've been looking at the M4. If the Vertex 3 is just a couple of weeks away, I will hold out for it. I just hope the new sandforce controllers will be more reliable than the previous gen ssd's. Speed is nothing if your laptop bsod's every time you hibernate or suspend.

I went with an older kingston 256, that is only a mid level, but for $500 it was a good deal for a solid SSD. I think that will amaze me anyways being my first SSD. Later in the year, or early next year, I hope to get a larger Vertex 3 when the price is down and the size is up to 350+ GB.

I considered waiting, but I want my computer up and running quickley and don't want to have to redo everything again in a month.

    Vertex 3 should be $249 for 120GB and $499 for 240GB.

    Hi!

I thought there is just a sata 2 controller in the l502x! Can anybody confirm the sata 3?

    Thanks a lot from Germany!

What interface and dimensions are acceptable for a hd for xps 15, specifically l502x? I can't find anywhere whether it accepts micro sata 1.8" or 2.5"?

    I'm pretty sure it's a standard 2.5".
The Vertex 3 was available for a little while, but they sold out, so now we have to keep waiting.
I think I heard it was Amazon, and even though they say it will be available in 1-2 months, they did have some briefly, but they went to the smart ones that pre-ordered.

See the Vertex 3 review here: http://thessdreview.com/our-reviews/ocz-vertex-3-240gb-sata-3-ssd-review-raid-has-become-pointless/

I just ordered the 240GB one from Amazon. I'll keep you posted.
