    Hello guys,

I (still) have a XPS 1645 (see signature) and due to too many repairs Dell offered an exchange. They told me they would send me an offer within the next days. What do you think is appropriate and based on my needs for photography (having used the RGB LED) which Dell laptop would u suggest?

There is the Dell Precision M6600 coming with
    a) UltraSharp FHD (1.920 x 1.080), Breitbild, LED-Hintergrundbeleuchtung, Multitouch-Funktion
    b) Full High Definition (1920x1080) Wide View IPS RGB LED

    Thanks guys!

Definitely the IPS RGB LED (unless you somehow really, really want the multitouch functionality, which is, quite frankly, a complete and utter gimmick in this sort of machine).

I am very surprised that they are offering you an M6600 to replace your 1645, though.

They are never, ever going to give you an M6600. I think you will find they will offer you the L521X which is coming out with a comparable display.

There's a difference between you not willing to accept a XPS 15, and them not willing to give you one in replacement of your 1645 :)

They will not offer you a Precision Mobile Workstation. It is an entirely different class of laptop. It would be like somebody asking for an Alienware M11x as a replacement for their Dell Mini netbook. The Precision is a very powerful business class laptop, I would know because I use one occasionally for work (M4600). There's no way they will offer you a business class laptop to replace a consumer/multimedia class laptop. Not to mention the $1000+ price difference!

why is there a difference if the price tag is almost the same and im willing to pay the difference? if worst comes to worst, i request a refund, thats what im eligible by law after that many replacements.

and then order a precision. whats so hard to understand?

also, what is the expected battery life with an ips panel? and i saw people having nvidia cards running ips, is that possible?

You do know the business laptops exclude VAT / tax and shipping. Not only that but the M6600 is not exactly a laptop, more a mobile workstation and therefore heavy and cumbersome, it weighs 3.5kg ffs!.... Why don't you wait for the L521x that is being launched tomorrow?

I understand where you're coming from, but it is not about the money itself, it is about the warranty/return process. The warranty return process will only give you a laptop that is similar to what you have, or if not the same model, then one as similar as possible and at a similar price to what you paid for yours. So the XPS15/15z is the closest thing possible. Since the L502x doesn't have the BGRLED anymore, your closest unit will be the 15z I think, or the L521x when it comes out.

The Precision is, first of all, not a XPS unit. They would never give you a Precision to replace a XPS. Second of all, the Precision would cost Dell way more than the XPS15, even if you wanted to pay the difference.

But you are correct, you can get a refund. We're just trying to say that you're free to get a Precision on your own, but Dell will not give you a Precision as a replacement unit to your 1645. That is the point we are trying to make. It seems that we all have our wires crossed on this.

The Precision M4600 that we have at work gets about 45 mins on the battery, at most it gets about 1hr with everything off (wifi, bt, nvidia card off).

This doesn't immediately translate to the IPS panel on battery life, but I thought it would help you RE: battery life on the Precision mobile wokstations.
