Obviously the 1730 ... It blows it out of teh water in every aspect possible ... How is this a hard choice?

I agree it blows it out of the water in every aspect except esthetics and portability. Also the studio xps16 has an HDMI port which is nice for hooking up to my tv.

I use my laptop for some gaming (Call of Duty, Tomb Raider), web browsing, and thats about it. I was thinking about taking my laptop to a couple of lectures for school also. I really prefer the 1920*1200 display over the 1366*720 also. Im just trying to decide if the ugliness and lack of portability of the xps m1730 is worth giving up the better specs. I just found out you can turn off the flashing lights on the back of the m1730 which makes it a little more tolerable.

How could I find a way to upgrade the screen? Please explain. I have had it for 2 days but I cannot return it. It isnt new.

So what would I lose by having the lesser p7350 instead of T9500. Will it affect me if im lets say, buring a dvd while surfing the web, and downloading a movie?

If you play games then keep the M1730, if not then you may prefer the Studio XPS 16 due to the smaller and sleeker case. Not having the 1080p screen is a killer though. I'd keep the M1730, and man it out.

One of the worst SXPS 1640 configs vs. one of the best XPS 1730 configs so the 17" wins assuming you don't need portability/battery life or aesthetics as mentioned and also assuming the GeForce 8700M didn't have an excessively high failure rate (as did the 8400M GS)

Because if I return the studio xps16 dell is telling me I have to keep the m1730. So basically I have to keep one or the other.

In that case I'd probably go with the Studio XPS 16. The reason is that I personally need a laptop this is semi-portable that I can take to class. However, if I didn't have a sweet desktop I'd go for the M1730. All depends on whether you need a laptop that you can take with you. Although, even the XPS 16 isn't the greatest mobile laptop (XPS 13 would be better for that). But still much lighter and smaller then a M1730.
