So this is my problem... I ran a diagnostics test yesterday because I was having the issue,

and ended up failing the short-self test for HD failure or whatever...

I read up on it, and found out that I should save all of my content and get a new HD ASAP..

So I did I bought a 256gb Corsair SSD, installed it perfectly it showed up in bios right away.

I figure that would solve the problem, or that that was possibly it..

But I keep getting this screen sometimes.. Sometimes it starts up fine, sometimes I have to restart it a few times or nothing shows...

I did hook it up to HDMI and noticed windows starts up...

So is the monitor shot? I just think its weird it works sometimes and sometimes not..

^ is a picture of the screen I get.

I try to talk to dell for help but they just try to get more money out of me (update warranty)

Laptop is a little over a year old approx.

Thanks in advance guys.. I'm just bummed I shelled out the money for this HD and still having problems.

If it always works on the external display then it's probably an issue with the screen. If you're out of warranty you probably don't have any options besides upgrading the warranty or replacing it yourself.

I've found these online i'm assuming this is the plug that was the plug that i thought was loose however i've removed it and made sure it was in and the problem isn't fixed...

However what are those black cables? could that be the problem at all I haven't looked at those.

If it always works on the external display, it could very well be a display cable issue as well as an issue with the actual display. I'm not sure which black cables you are referring to; both of the cables in your pic are very clearly labeled.
