I had my screened replaced yesterday due to dust underneath the screen. And now i just noticed 3 specs underneath it. My question is how these poorly sealed screens get by dell's quality control? Thank god i got the 2 year onsite on top of the 1 year return to depot. I think ill be using it alot for this problem right now im not gonna worry about it. I will wait for another problem to pop up but if that dosent in 6 months ill just have it replaced again. Anyone else have a poorly sealed screen on the Studio xps 16?

I think all SXPS screen are like that. It's just the design. I started a thread predicting more and more people will become annoyed when, over time, more dust particules find their way behind the plastic filter. More people will want their screen replaced.

This is worrying me a lot. I don't look forward to having to have my laptop "repaired".

In the thread I started, there's a Youtube video showing someone removing the plastic filter. That would be a last resort solution.

I don't think it is like that. After dell tech changed my sxps 13 screen, i don't see any particles in it after two months. My first screen had five particles after 2 weeks but i am still not sure.

You sure it was dust? I actually had my screen replaced recently, but I think it was mold, not dust. I started to get more and more "spots" and they were larger than dust particles, about 1/2 - 1mm in diameter. I really think it was mold growing there somehow.

For the record, I've had a 1340 for 4 months or so and there's no dust under the screen yet.

Actually what is the advantage using edge to edge screen?
The LCD panel inside the glass/plastic cover is glossy type or matte type?

Well, if you look at the video of the guy who removed the filter, you'll see that the filter is not something that is tightly sealed to the LCD frame -- no glue used, just a few "hooks" (not sure how to call them). So sooner or later dust will get in. If you're lucky, you won't have the larger particules get in and lodge themselves at the center of the screen to bother you.

The whole plastic screen just seems cheap. It's so badly implemented compared to the new Macs, and even on them it looks like crap in my opinion. I have no idea why anyone would want a edge to edge screen that comes with a mirror you have to look at.

Good question. That's a question I was asking myself.

I was wondering if it was reasonable to just unglue that clear plastic cover from its frame, throw that away and keep the frame on the panel. Maybe I should contact that Brazilian guy, he should know.

I really wish they put glass but sealed it with glue. Theres a huge dust particle in the middle just to the right, AFTER A DAY. I really wish they didn't use such cheap plastic and little clips to keep it there. And when you clean the screen with a microfiber the plastic folds in a bit and bushes the imprint of the dust particle onto the lcd panel. Its really annoying

D'you think there will be any thrid party mods out in a bit which replace the plastic cover with something identical but without the bit covering the screen to turn it into a normal screen? It would make sense seeing as it is only a snap on unit

Yes i can see this happening but if i feel like it ill remove it and have a frame with glass made it it begins to bother me more

Just don't bother putting something over the screen, that's how most laptops are and they work fine. The screens don't need something over them
