Ok whatever, can we not discuss the throttling anymore? That's not staying on topic. The throttling is what it is and everyone has their OPINION ON IT! Perhaps that wasn't the best analogy but that wasn't the point. Its the last time I create a thread for an excellent notebook. Then again I should call this thread..."Throttling Round Two"

Yeah Josh we know, I hope if you re-order this time its better than the first one
-
Hopefully... I'm going to order through my school and make them give me free next day business shipping and other discounts...
And order white.
If they can't get me what I want I just won't bother. -
but for the most part you liked the laptop right?
-
I like it, I just do not like the stupidity of the people behind it.
-
Give up the Energy Star argument! I think its been established that it that it a bunch of garbage. The laptop is measured in three stages: idle, sleep, and off, so don't really think throttling would benefit the test at any of these points. Do some research before you make statements like this.
-
So throttling when using Firefox definitely isn't considered idling. I have it set with RMclock to stay at the highest multiplier, and I watch it go down to the lowest while hardly doing anything. Do some research before you make statements like this.
-
Please define "fine". Do you mean for hours on end? Or did you just hop in the game, run around for a bit or run a timedemo?
As I stated earlier, unless you replaced your thermal paste, use a notebook cooler or have a miracle machine, I am severely doubting that there is no GPU throttling going on. I'm not talking about the old CPU throttling thing, that's in the past.
Since I appear to only have negative statements this thread, here are some positives about the system:
Good looks. Decent pricepoint (if the performance would only match it...). Excellent screen.
The issue is that the negatives drag those positives down, which is just a crying shame. I get that you're happy with your system and I wouldn't try to tell you that you're wrong about liking it. What I'm trying to point out is that the problems haven't been fixed and they DO affect a LOT of people, far more than you keep claiming that they don't. -
I'm perfectly happy with it. The throttling issue got solved but to be honest I never really noticed performance issues because of it (but then again I don't play games on the computer).
Awesome screen, great features (keyboard lighting), great sound, great design, and its pretty much the most complete laptop you can get right now and has the possibility to fully spec everything you might desire (SSD + Blu-Ray + HDMI, etc. etc.) -
You get best post
for staying on topic

@ the OP
If everyone has some issue with their SXPS 164X, then its hard to find any fully satisfied owner of same. BTW, did we get any lucky person who is completely happy with his/her SXPS
-
Well as you can see, there are many who love it and have had no issues.
-
hahahaahahaha, wow...I never thought I'd be blamed for Dell's throttling issues. Sorry guys, I admit it! Ive been the one causing the throttling in the 1640. Ever since I started the thread the throttling has spread!! You got me!!
I guess I can kinda forgive you because you seem to me severely misinformed or you just haven't been following these issues from the beginning or long enough. That and you generalize everything because you're experience is "perfect".
Why did I start a thread for 1640 and throttling? Because a Dell employee (Dell-Bill) who spearheaded the throttling fix for the 45 anf 47 told me too. Now if the guy was responsible for helping get the throttling fixed on those models why WOULDN'T I listen to him and start a separate thread for the 1640?
And you keep saying the average user won't have issues with throttling. Of course he won't! An average user doesn't even know what throttling is. An average user doesn't even know what an "Internet browser" is, and dell is taking advantage of that! Don't you see the point? Don't you see how horrible this is? Just because the user isn't tech savvy enough or smart enough to do the research and realize they got sold a defective laptop, doesn't mean its not defective. You're basically defending Dell selling defective products to the uniformed masses. Kudos to you man.
And again I must apologize for starting a thread which lead to everyone's computer throttling. Sorry guys
-
Well your entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. You better believe I'd recommend this computer to anyone looking for high performance.
-
I'm happy.
Love the keyboard, screen, thinness, and power. -
