yeah, my 1330 is junk too, extending the warranty tonight because i have already had every part replaced besides the memory and cpu i think... dont think it is going to stop braking any time soon. the good old days of the m170 and 9300 are gone unfortunately... my 1505 is still kicking but beginning to show its age (and my wife's abuse) but it is still 100% more reliable than my 1330. my m1730 seems ok, nothing wrong with it yet anyways, and i have 2 more years of warranty so not too worried. besides the fact it is huge and heavy and uglier than sin it is ok...

No question that's an amazing deal. I think that MIGHT be the model that had issues though-random crashes and stuff that were hardware related, but it might hvae been a different version number, nad it may have been fixed. That FX model BestBuy's carried for a year or so though's been amazing. I'd own one no question IF it had an LED backlit screen (which I'd gladly pay a couple hundred more for, if need be).

Yeah, it would add 1/3 to the price of the 1640 I'm looking at. I don't really trust Dell anymore. Their forums are gone (essentially) so I can't get help from mods there if I need it, and I know that's sometimes necessary, given how bad outsourced support usually is. I don't really trust them to honor the warranty, so I'd rather gamble by having the money to buy a new system with, I guess.

Yomama you are hilarious. I have laughed so hard at your apparent stupidity. And then for some reason you quoted me, yet all you had to say was that i posted criticism...No really, did I? Well you realize what this thread is about right? Well let me explain really quick for you, because obviously you need it:

This thread is about how some people are misinformed when they say that dell makes good gaming laptops.

Now that we have that fact down let me explain why Blue Diamond and I are offering criticism. We are trying to explain that Dell not only makes poor gaming laptops, but that they make bad laptops in general (If i am generalizing your arguments I apologize, Blue Diamond). My agenda is actually to inform the misinformed that buying a dell is probably not the best choice. I am not trying to use empty rhetoric like some opponents, I have offered the fact that I was a dell owner and my XPS 1330 failed on me, as well as mentioning the thread on the XPS forum, "Would you have done it again" or something to that title, as a way to prove their are many negative responses to Dell. Then I mentioned the similar thread on the sony forum, a ture "Lamborghini" laptop manufacturer, where the responses to Sony were basically 100% positive.

Dell used to make good gaming laptops back in E1705/M90/XPS M1710 days.

E1705 had best bang for the buck back then. It had 7900GS (which died very often btw) which was pretty much an XPS w/ 7900GS card in it, and would run games fairly well.

Anyways, it looks like the gaming days of XPS (M1730) is pretty much over, since Dell doesn't seem like it's going to upgrade the 17" high end systems, so I'll be moving to some other brand pretty soon. (M6400 does look good, but you can do much better with alienware for the money I think. (M17, or other generics))
