I've just priced up two identical XPS 15 systems, one on the US site and one on the UK site.

The US site machine with 1080p, BluRay reader only, 6GB Ram, 2720QM Processor, 640GB Hard Disk, Win7 Home Prem, 540M GPU, No chargeable software and No TV tuner comes in at $1404.99...and I'm pretty sure there are vouchers around that would allow me to get off a further 10% so that brings it down to about $1260.

The UK site machine with 1080p, BluRay reader only, 6GB Ram, 2720QM Processor, 640GB Hard Disk, Win7 Home Prem, 540M GPU, No chargeable software and No TV tuner comes in at £1210.00 we have to remove the VAT to make it like for like so £1008.33.

The current $/£ exchange rate is $1.63 per £1 so in $ terms our UK machine is costing £1008.33 * 1.63 = $1643.58

In the US machine cost is $1260, in the UK the same machine is $1643.58 or a $383.58 (over 30%) difference.

It's quite hard for you to talk about higher overhead in the UK when all the support and composite marketing is now done offshore in India.

So stop hating the UK Michael, you're hurting our feelings.

I used to live in the U.K, just recently got U.S Citizenship. One reason I love the U.S is the cheap electronics. Not only does the U.K get everything last it's also more expensive. I'm so glad I moved.

Wait till Monday, for all the UK's many problems I don't think we've ever let the Central Government come to a complete stop.

I wanted the xps15 but held off from ordering on the uk website (where I am) because I was happy to wait for the backlit keyboard to arrive here (I didn't know you could ask for it by phone and even then, could not be bothered to ring up). Then I heard my US cousin was coming to the UK so I ordered on the US website, had it delivered to his home on the Saturday 2 weeks after placing the order, and he was departing for the UK the next day so perfect timing.

I paid in $ the equivalent of 745 pounds for a higher specification laptop that would otherwise have cost me over 1100 pounds, and some of the specs weren't even available on the UK website. I won't buy on the UK website ever, though you can see that I need to figure out a shortcut way to the pound symbol given the US keyboard!

If you read the full explanation you can see I already took the VAT out.
