I can understand that the current xps line is not made specifically for gaming(as there are alienware and many others taking care of that department) so a high end GPU is not offered on the xps.
But why not offer the same GPUs across all xps modules? Is there a specific reason why xps 14(while it lasted) could only choose cards that's 1 step inferior than the ones in xps 15, same for xps 15 can only choose cards that's 1 step inferior than the ones in xps 17? I'm not an expert but I have been reading posts about these cards since I bought my xps 14, and from what I read they are pretty much all the same cards with difference vRAM and clock speed(except the 555m which is more like 2 steps better than the others).

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Average consumer doesn't know the differences in the GPUs, and people see bigger numbers (1, 2, 3 GB VRAM) and that results in more profits.
-
But that doesn't explain why they don't offer say a 555M on xps 15. Deal breaker for people who want the size of xps 15 and the power of 555M(me ;<)

They have burnt their fingers with the XPS16 overheating issue...
The 555M would be too hot for the XPS15 and it would probably need an even larger power adapter...it runs on the limit with a i7 quad and the 540M.

And, the 555M runs at lower clock speed thus it may actually be cooler than the 525M.
I think it was purely a cost-cutting measure.
Why doesn't dell offer the same GPU on all xps modules?
