Why no Blu-ray option for XPS?

Dell isn't currently offering a Blu-ray option for their notebooks (XPS, or even Alienware). I've heard from folks that back in November they were. I confirmed my observation with live Dell support chat, but aside from confirming it they could offer me no hints about the WHY or WHEN of this.

Does anybody have any insight here? Supply chain issues maybe?

I'm in the market for a new machine and if this is a short-term delay I can wait and get the XPS16. But I'm clueless as to why I can't get it, so I have no guess how long my wait will be.

Inventory is low and will result in substantial delays and distant EDDs.

They get beat up when they have delays so it's better for them to ship what they can.

As far as I heard, the blu-ray was defective so good thing you did not get it.
