Anyone get the Intel WiFi/WiMAX minicard working on 1640 or 1645? I installed the device into the "WWAN" minicard slot and installed the WiMAX connection software successfully, however the software says WiMAX not ready and doesn't work. I've heard that this message can be related to whether there is proper USB support on the minicard slots, do either of these models have it? I'm testing this on a 1640 and will soon have a 1645, maybe it will work on that?

Well here's how mine is configured - there's three slots, one half-minicard slot and two full minicard slots. The WLAN port (I think) came with Bluetooth module, the half-slot had a half-minicard Intel WiFi 5300, and then the WWAN was empty. Will I be able to run the Bluetooth adapter in the WWAN slot if I take it out and put the 5350 in it? I guess I have nothing to lose by trying it.

Why don't you you just replace the 5300 with the 5350 I mean aren't they practically the same thing(besides wimax)?

The 5300 is in a half-card slot, the 5350 is full size minicard. The half cards are half the length than full size, there's no room.

I checked all the slots out,the slots are "UWB" that I think had the Bluetooh module, or whatever it is, it's made by Broadcom - the WLAN is half--card slot with 5300 -- and the WWAN was empty, and Bluetooth isn't working in it, nor is WiMAX working in the UWB slot. Is there a half-card version for the 5350? That's what I need.

BTW, I'm strictly interested in the WiMAX working, don't care about WiFi. WiFi is working fine, it's the WiMAX that's not.

Yep, I have Clear internet in Portland, bought the Intel 5350 so I didn't have to lease a modem, everything indicated it would work. Guess not, very few minicard slots are properly equiped with USB. :/

I wish I would have known I would have a half-card slot computer. This system is new to me, it's a replacement for my E1705. Now it's time to buy a 5150 half card.

apologize about double post... but from the intel site i see no difference performance wise for WiMAX (mostly wifi) so that shouldnt be a problem in your case
