I Just updated my wireless home network with the Linksys E4200 wireless router and would now like to update my xps m1730's wireless card. The Intel N 6300 is a half mini card but i can buy a metal bracket to make it a full sized mini card. Other than that, will my xps m1730 run well with the n 6300 card? The xps m1730 comes with 3 attenaes too. Hope for some help... Thanks

As long as it has the antennae required then you should be good to go. See if you have extra cabling for the WLAN antennae cable as some will not reach installing a mini WLAN card.

Thanks for the response. My cables are quite long and should reach. The only thing that really worries me is weather it will be compatible with my sytems hardware, I dont want my computer to freeze. I am running windows 7 64-Bit ed . My computer has an Intel core 2 duo T8100 processor. It has 4 gigs of DDR 2 ram that runs and 667 mhz. With these things in mind it should have any issues??? Dell doesn't want me to get the card because they don't understand that you can add a metal bracket to the card and were telling me to get the Intel Centrino Ultimate N 5300 full size mini card instead.

5300
6300
This might be a dumb thing to add but i noticed that the 6300 has two less gold teeth at the end of the chip. The 5300 has eight to the left and 17 to the right. the 6300 has 8 to the left and 15 to the right. This would'nt cause a problem, would it? -
Just called intel and they said that both chips are pretty much the same and the only difference is the 6300 has increased bandwith. That being said, it should work so i ordered it today. I will post back when I install it to see whether it does for sure work.

Thanks, you were right!!!
Just to let anyone know that has this computer, if you want to upgrade to the N 6300, it will work by Intel. The xps m 1730 has 3 atennaes to connect to the card, and will work one you install the latest driver from intel for the n 6300.
The only thing that you need to get for the card to fit perfectly a bracket to make the half size mini card into the fully length. Bracket is only like 4 bucks and can be ordered of of ebay... bracket of mini half intel 6300 6250 wlan card to pci-e | eBay
This one fitted pretty good, it was a super tight fit but i manged to lock it down into place. I'm sure other brackets will work for it too, just since i got this i know it will work.
Definitely a good upgrade to get because i had the dell 1395 card before and also the dell 1505 card and i get at least twice the range with this N 6300 card. also the intel software that you install with the card can act as its own wifi acces point as like a wireless router. this is super cool because where my ipod touch cant reach, my xps can... so if i wanted to connect to the interent i could just use my computer for the acces point. the security is WPA2, so it's secure... no worries about that.
Anyways I was worried about getting this card because of compatibility issues, but i knew the 5300 would work so i called intel and the said the 6300 is the same thing, just built with newer software for it to extend further in range. I'm glad i got this and it was ony 40 bucks!
Just to let you all know, don't even ask dell about this... they suck and don't even know the product they sell at all!!! They wanted me to get the dell 1510 which is like the same thing as the 1505. honestly the reason they do this is so they can get rid of all their old products that the don't want anymore! -

Some of the improvement may be going to the 5ghz range. I'm planning on installing my 6300 soon once I've tested 5ghz in my house with another laptop.
Will the XPS M1730 work with the Intel Centrino Ultimate N 6300 wireless card?
