I ordered a Dell Studio XPS 1645 and it is due to arrive on tuesday. The first thing I am planning to do is install my copy of Windows 7 since it shipped with Vista. Not sure why it shipped with vista but ive got a free copy of 7 so ohh well.

My question is. Will this void my warranty if I have problems with the laptop. Is there anything I should check before I install.

I know about the throttling problem (didn't when I ordered) and I am going to deal with that if it becomes a real problem.

I would suggest you check with Dell why it is being shipped with Win Vista in the first place.

And no, it won't void your warranty.

This won't void your warranty..... As long as you don't mess with the Hardware, you can install whatever software (of course, OS being one of them)you want and your warranty is covered.

That is what was on the ordering page. Didn't really think about it since I get free windows 7 from work.

I thought about calling in and ordering it with 7, however I figured it might cost more and I want a fresh install anyways.

well mine came with 32bit vista. i got a copy of 64bit from a dell rep with the understanding that if installed dell tech support will not provide service. so take it for whats its worth.

Order 110747888 setup to send the Vista 64bit DVD. Give it 3 to 5 business days to ship. Understand Dell will not assist in any operating system or driver issues. We will only assist in diagnosing hardware failures. Dell does not guarantee that there will be 64bit Vista drivers for all PC models. Some 32bit software and peripherals may not run in a 64bit environment.
