Has anyone been able to install Windows XP successfully on their M1730. When I try to do it, I can't get the XP Sigmatel drivers available on the Dell Download page to install. I have run the installer and tried to install manually through device manager. I keep getting an error about ExitError:Error=This system does not support the driver you are attempting to install or when I go through Device Manager and point it to the drivers I have unpacked it says no driver for the device is located there. I'm trying to get rid of Vista as it does not run some of the older games I still like to play sometimes and to me is just a better OS. Thanks.

This is what I did. It seems that when the Sigmatel driver setup initially starts that it is installing a knowledge base file. Then it would start the install process and then fail. What I found out was that the knowledge base file it was installing is for Windows XP or Windows XPSP1. I was installing Windows XPSP2. I got the correct driver, KB888111, from the Conexant modem driver package from Dell. I then let it extract and then canceled the install. I then took and installed KB888111.exe and then went to Device Manager and looked for a PCI Device in Sytem Devices. This had the yellow question mark. I then used WinRAR to extract the contents of the KB888111.exe and then did update driver on the PCI Device. It found its driver and changed to Microsoft High Definition Audio Device. I then did another Update Driver on this device and pointed it toward the folder containing the Sigmatel Drivers and it installed those. I now have working sound on my M1730.
