Anybody installed Windows 10 on the XPS 1645 yet? How has that turned out for you?
And which option would you think is better:
A. Install Windows 10 from scratch and then hope the old drivers work and that Windows 10 by itself makes all the hardware work.
B. Install the original Windows 7 image with all the drivers and then upgrade to Windows 10 from there?
Cheers.

That's an easy one. Install Windows 10 from scratch. It's always better to do a clean install of an OS, to avoid as much of the legacy unoptimized junk as possible.
The thing is that the drivers will either work, or won't work, with Windows 10. It doesn't matter if you do a clean install to Windows 10, or if you upgrade from Windows 7 --> 10. If you have -
I've installed Win10 on my 1645. Please note that you MUST first do the upgrade installation to correctly register the Win10 license, even if you want to later do a from scratch/clean install (this has been well-documented on various forums). The only issue I seem to have is that I get occasional drops with my (hard-wired) Ethernet connection.....this is also a well-documented issue with the Broadcom driver.

@ABCarr56 is your Bluetooth working? I upgraded mine xp1645 (windows7 64 bit to win 10) but unable to see Bluetooth device.

I updated my XPS 1645 OS to windows 10 yesterday and so far I think everything is running ok, but:
1. My bluetooth wasn't detected, and I couldn't install "Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Minicard Application", Version 6.2.0.9600, A01 (from Dell's website).
2. My touchpad wouldn't scroll, so I tried installing synaptics latest driver, with no success ( Windows 8/7/XP/Vista 64/32-bit Edition v17.0.19). I ended up installing Dell's "Synaptics TouchPad, v.15.0.18.0, A09", which worked. Now my touchpad scrolls, although there's no options for two finger scrolling or other gestures.
I didn't install any other drivers. I am satisfied with Windows 10 so far... =]
Oh, and I installed and played Championship Manager 01/02 on it. -
I installed Windows 10 on my Studio XPS 1645. Everything worked well except for the Bluetooth. I searched the Dell site for a suitable Broadcom 370 driver but had no luck.
Windows 10 won't accept the Windows 7 Bluetooth drivers.
I hunted around for some Windows 8 drivers but had no luck.
I finally located some Windows 10 Broadcom Bluetooth drivers from the Lenovo web site. I gave them a try and they appear to have worked. The installation program didn't complete but when I checked the device manager the Bluetooth drivers were there.leite1987 likes this. -
Here is the result.

After the Lenovo installation suite bombed out and the drivers were installed, I installed the Broadcom suite and they installed correctly.
I tested the installed Bluetooth with my mobile phone and everything worked ok. -
@desone : Hi have you checked these:
1) Calling & Music playback from mobile while its connected to laptop through bluetooth(xps1645)... For me it doesn't work even after installing drivers from Lenovo.
2) Display drivers not available for ATI.
3) I did not checked Ethernet port on windows 10 but I got reviews that there is frequent drop in connection over wired LAN in windows10 on xps1645.
4) IDT Audio drivers not working properly neither compatible drivers are available for windows 10... equalizers, effects, pre-sets etc nothing works on windows 10.
5) Touchpad works but only basic features (pinch zoom, dual finger scroll etc not working)
6) Dell mentioned(on their website) that XPS 1645 is not supported for windows 10.(If your on windows 10 OS crosscheck it on dell drivers page)
Sadly I rolled back to windows 7on my xps 1645

4) Sometimes I feel there's something strange with the audio. I thought it was my ears, but maybe not... =[
5) Touchpad works only with basic features indeed. I miss two finger scrolling (which I enabled in Windows 7 by installing twofingerscroll, an old program that suited me very well). -
My 1645 still had freezing issues, with the A13 bios, so I it was used only by guests in the last years. I could upgrade to Win 8.1 early this year but it didn't bring any improvement.
I was trying to upgrade it to Win 10, but the 1645 was freezing every time during the installation process. It became clear that I would'nt invest any more time in it and throw it away.
I found some older posts talking about using a 130 Watt power supply instead of the 90 Watt standard supply. I didn't really believe it would change anything but I decided to give the 1645 a last chance ... and ... it works :
I could install Win 10 two days ago without any issue, the 1645 runs fine and seems not to overheat anymore.
I didn't try bluetooth yet.Last edited: Sep 30, 2015 -
Great News Guys with a Dell Studio XPS 1645. I, like most of you, recently upgraded to Windows 10. Everything worked, except Bluetooth.
It was driving me crazy. I tried to follow desone's advise, but since he didn't list what Lenovo driver he used, it was a big trial and error. time consuming , to say the least. Anyway I finally found one that worked. It required me to remove all previous Bluetooth drivers. The insallation did, at the end, fail. But like desone said. the drivers installed anyway. Bluetooth works perfect. I Iisted the driver I used..Good luck
