Installed Windows 7 as my main OS yesterday. Its a beta 1 but its a lot better than Vista in every way possible (supports the 185.20 Nvidia beta driver).

I still haven't tested any games, but I am going to test some and post my findings here :D

I can say Wow runs great. Havent tried anything else. I actually have a slight improved performance on WoW, Better frame rate and no more, screen tearing when in windowed mode.

    Umm.. i have a question.
I'm planning on dual-booting Windows 7 Build 7000, with my existing install of xp pro x64, on my system. Do i need to download the drivers seperately or can i download them natively via windows update?

Im not sure since you have XP installed, as far as basic function of my laptop i didnt have to download anything outside of what windows 7 did. With the exception of my video drivers.

Did you simply use Vista drivers for everything? Also, did you load the AHCI driver during the install, or is that step not necessary for Windows 7?

I also am testing Windows Seven (32 bits).. and something I need to add is that the OS only take 800MB of RAM, and I have virtual memory turned off, in windows Vista 64 the OS takes 1300 Mb of Ram on my XPS (also virtual memory off)

First impression may be "it's looks like vista" but they did some title changes all over the OS like in the task bar, no only is bigger also the notification bar works different than before.

About the XPS M1530 the only Driver you need to install manually is the Nvidia and the finger print reader, every driver or software for vista will be compatible with seven as well ... (well that they told me, but I didn't know until now about the Daemons Tool software)

Do I like Seven???..... YES!!!... I can wait for the 64 bit version of build 7000!

Well, I installed Windows 7 this afternoon. Installed fine, seems to run really well. The only glitch so far is that I can seem to add my Dell Bluetooth Stereo Headphones. I tried with the drivers included with Windows 7, and then after failing that I installed the Dell Widcomm drivers for Vista. The drivers install fine, but it just doesn't see my headphones. (Sees my cell phone though.) That's a major bummer, since I use these BT Headphones all the time for watching movies on the M1530. Hope that gets rectified by the official release.

Uh, OK. Ignore this. I'd forgotten that you have to hold the power button down on the headphones to enter discovery mode. The Dell BT Stereo Headphones work just fine under Windows 7 after all. :)

i'd really like to test this out, but i'm not even sure if 512 RAM would run it :(. anyone think it would be a good idea to try, or just wait til i upgrade soon?

also, if i do decide to try it out, i'd imagine i'd need to partition my harddrive...how do i even do that? lol, and is that reversible?

    ...Yes, i'ma N00bie

Before anyone plays any variable bit rate mp3s on build 7000 with WMP12, make sure you install the hotifx from Microsoft. Or else it could truncate the first 2-3 seconds of your songs permanently.

Both x86 and x64 versions are out, x86 build is the same (7000) that was leaked earlier plus the hotfix for mp3s.
Windows 7 x86 on M1530 will support up to 3.5GB RAM.

Public as in anyone can download it from official Windows 7 website.
It is expected that there will be a lot of demand, so servers might be slow or crash.

Just installed on my m1330 and it runs perfectly.
The fingerprint reader is not supported (i didn't even try installing vista drivers yet)
I am using the x64 version.
The only drivers i had to install were the synaptic one from the synaptic website ( dell drivers were not working for me) and the official nvidia drivers from nvidia website.

I am getting a solid 3 on my ratings for the hard disk. Does anyone know where to get the AHCI drivers for x64 Windows 7? I tried the intel matrix storage with no luck.

Those of you that installed the beta, what is the gaming performance like on that new 185.20 driver? Better/worse than XP?

EDIT: Also, has anyone attempted overclocking with Rivatuner?

I don't know that they're needed. I've installed Windows 7 (twice now actually) without pre-loading the ahci driver, and I'm getting the same disk score that I was getting under Vista (5.1).

Has anyone gotten a secondary display working over HDMI?

Everything else works beautifully for me, though I wish some MUIs or language packs were available.

EDIT: secondary display started working after a reboot. the graphics get screwed up when the desktop switches though

    Edit 2:

My battery life is way better now, I get 3:30 hours in win 7, on vista (Or xp Tri-booting) I get at the most 2 hours (Better is going dead need a new one)

You have to get AHCI enabled during installation. :(

Win 7 is absolutely amazing! running really smooth. power management is really fantastic. even my temp's are lower (way lower) than vista.

gaming performance is pretty good. tried far cry 2, fallout 3, and nfs underground only now and haven't experienced any problems do far. i used the drivers via windows update. haven't recorded fps though, sorry.

I cant wait for Win 7 to be finally released! This is definetly a good direction that microsoft's taking.

    cheers!
