Just bought an XPS 17 w/ 3D and I read the crazy 300+ page thread for the XPS 17. I'm a bit confused as to what I get exactly as far as the Windows 7 OS software.

I didn't pay $15 for whatever that disc is when you configure the XPS 17. However, when I called customer service and asked what I would get, they told me that I would get discs for the OS and the drivers. On another call when I spoke to a tech support rep, he told me that the only thing that would come with the system was the partition for OS reinstallation.

So my question is: should I call Dell and try to add the $15 option for the disc or is there some other way to do a clean install of Windows 7? I want to do this right when my computer arrives to remove all the bloatware and also I plan on getting a SSD within a year and at that time I will have to do another clean install to get W7 on the SSD. What is my best course of action? Thank you!!!

i didn't add the optional windows 7 CD and when i receive the laptop the CD was not there.. (well duh!)
so what i did was send an email to [email protected] and ask for a set of backup discs (remember to mention the Windows 7 OS) and just say you lost the one that came with your laptop, and guess what? 3 CDs were sent to me 3 days later... windows 7, drivers, and the powerdvd :)

EDIT: remember to include your customer no. , service tag, order no. and shipping address in your email. Good Luck!!

Ah cool I'll try that. If they refuse to send the discs for some reason, is there another way to reinstall W7 without the discs? I don't really want to use the partition to reinstall because I've read that you get all the bloatware with it.

Download an ISO online, burn it to a disc, and use your license code on the bottom of your laptop.
