Hi,
I have a peculiar problem, my laptop came with a 128 GB SSD and a 1 TB HDD, the SSD is for Intel Rapid Start as Windows 8 uses that technology, i have to make a clean install of Windows 8 as i did something stupid with the OS, now i have a disk for the OS system, i tried to install it once but i couldnt see the 128 Gb SSD in my computer and Intel Rapid start wont work unless the SSD is detected.
My question is If i have to install Windows 8 and see both the SSD and the 1 Tb HDD in my computer and make Intel Rapid Start work how do i go about it ? If i install windows 8 in the 1 tb HDD i cant see the 128 gb ssd and vice versa how do i make both work. Also understand to install Windows 8 i have to use AHCI mode in BIOS.
Also is it possible for me to use Disk Management or even partition manager to be able to use the SSD again. I am open to suggestions as i'd be wasting the SSD otherwise
Thanks
Utkarsh

I understood the post, but i have a problem if i choose Intel Smart in the Sata i am unable to clean install my OS on the hard drive. I have a disc provided by Dell for re installing the software
-
You may need to take the contents of the disk and put it on a FAT32 usb drive to install from. The UEFI bios mode does not recognize NTFS media.
-
Ok just a couple of more questions, do i need to make a bootable Disk on the USB or just merely copy the contents ? Also where should i install the Windows 8 OS on the SSD or the 1tb HDD ?
-
The reason i ask this is because, i have a 128 GB SSD and a 1tb HDD, and i really want this to be the last time i ever install the windows 8 OS on my laptop
-
Well, the way it works is that the SSD would speed act as a cache for the HDD. Since it's faster, it would make sense to install Windows on the HDD. You can just copy the contents to the USB. Just format to FAT32 then copy everything it should be the same procedure with the Dell Disc you have. I used a Microsoft ISO file.

As i speak i installed it.. Thanks a ton for your help..
-
No you need to unzip it. Also, it is a different USB from the one the OS is one right? If not I think it needs to be.
-
I did exactly as you said but i dont see the SSD drive in My Computer and i get the same error message while trying to install Intel Rapid Start, also in disk management i see a Disk 1, which is the 120 gb ssd and it is un allocated..
-
You're not supposed to see it under My Computer. What error are you seeing? Install all the required Dell Drivers, but this is what sets it up. Open up a run prompt and type in Diskmgmt.msc and look for the SSD drive and delete the volume.

Let me rephrase the question and give you information
I installed the driver from the USB drive, so now i see a 1 tb hdd in my computer, i DO NOT see the 120 gb SSD. I went to Disk management and i see Disk 0 which is the 1 TB HDD and Disk 2 which is the 119.2 SSD, it is unallocated..
Secondly when i tried to download the drivers you linked me to it said i have newer driver versions and asks if i want to overwrite, i used google to get the latest drivers to put in the USB. -
Nevermind Intel Rapid Start. It didn't install for me. It said something about not being compatible correct? The driver in the link is what will get you going. No, as long as the drive is showing up as un allocated, i.e. no volume, when you install the Rapid Storage Technology driver it'll see it and give you the option to accelerate.

Also the error i got for Rapid start was that the computer does not meet the minimum requirements
Should i overwrite the newer version ? -
That is what I'm saying, the SSD will not show up under My Computer. It is showing up in Disk Management, that's how it's supposed to be. Hit start and tell me if the Intel Rapid Storage Technology program is already installed. This program http://i.imgur.com/S0uFd.png

Should i overwrite the newer version already installed ?
-
If that program is already installed then you should be able to go ahead and accelerate the drive already. Open it up and try it. If not then yes you can try overwriting it.
-
I got it, i have accelerated, let me reboot and see if system perfomance increases. I will report back
-
It'll take a few cycles to show improved speed. But yes.
-
Thank you so much, its working and my computer booted so i assume it auto runs.. I hope this thread helps a lot of other people as well
