Windows defender is saying that I haven't scanned for three days when in fact I did a complete scan yesterday using AVG. Is my computer not configured correctly? Shouldn't Windows Defender know that it has been scanned?

vista is way too anal about security. i disabled UAC today. now windows security center is upset about that so it always has that "warning" icon in the tray. i wish there was some kind of option to say "i know what i am doing. i am aware of the various risks. leave me alone."

Windows Defender only knows about Windows Defender, not AVG. That's why you got that message.

If you have AVG 8, which claims to include anti-spyware, you may wish to disable Windows Defender, by setting the appropriate option in Windows Defender's settings area.

I, personally, recommend you leave UAC enabled, and, I do so on my own machines, too; it is an excellent safeguard against malware at a minimal inconvenience.

You can actually get rid of that little red annoying icon that insists you have UAC enabled.

Control Panel -> Security Center -> "Change the way Security Center alerts me"

That last button is on the left of Security Center.
