Depends on people. Vista runs better for me. Just try it yourself

isn't it because the bios are vista optimized have to do with it too?

also, would sp3 for xp increase the performance?

might be drivers for xp aren't written properly(since the laptop's sold with vista....)..... need to do hacks/bypasses for xp(sata drivers for example)...

My apologies for the dig but I have exactly the same problem.
I have used all the drivers recommended on this forum so I was disappointed to see that xp runs slower than Vista. With slower I do not mean booting but the overall performance, for instance, opening programmes, opening the start menu, etc ...

Is there any way to improve this besides the xp tweaks? Are the drivers just bad?

M1530 running on XP seems a bit buggy (for me anyway...)

Also, I noticed reformatting made the M1530 slower actually.

Installing SP1 also made it slower after reformat. XD

Opening the start menu? That is pretty much instantaneous in any OS I have used... The programs are understandable, since Vista uses Superfetching, which loads a part of the program into memory while booting up, depending on your usage patterns.

From my own experience, on a 1330, XP is faster...

When I first install windows XP on my m1530 I realized that it was actually much slower than windows vista. I was figuring out what was the cause of the problem until I've decided to remove the mcafee security suite that came with the laptop. Once I've gotten rid of that software, things didn't improve much either. It was until I defragged my hard drive using perfectdisk 2008 did I notice a significant improvement in the speed of windows XP, in terms of opening programs and stuff like that. Now, my m1530 is running blazing fast on windows XP and I can confidently say that it's faster than vista.

Conclusion: Remove that mcafee software which slows XP, but somehow not vista, down a lot and defrag your hard disk after removing the software or installing your XP drivers.

XP runs faster than x64 Vista for me. But when I play Source games, using the same drivers (but for XP), same settings and same resolution, Vista runs much better for some reason.

XP runs much faster for me - in day to day tasks, as well as a couple extra frames in gaming, and about +150 in 3dmark06.

In both OS's, I turned off all the security services (have done so for years - security centre, firewall, all that garbage) and that's how I compared them.

Hey Udi! I saw your Windows XP Pack thread and that is a real lifesaver! Is it still updated because I think about downloading that pack when I get my laptop from dell.
