I have read that it is possible to install windows XP in a flash drive and boot from there.
Has anyone tried this in an XPS?
I want to boot Vista normally for daily use, and boot XP from the flash drive only for gaming (I don't like external HDDs). This way I don't need to mess with the partitions.
Any cons? what about speed and performance while gaming?
Thanks!

I found that tutorial, but was looking for 2nd opinions
is it completely necessary to modify those files on the win xp installation ISO? can't I perform a normal isntall, ponting the installer to the flash drive? -
.
You can't install XP on a sata drive if you don't integrate the drivers. We are not talking about the "compatible" mode in BIOS. Some lappies dont have it. So, back to our apples, yes you need to modify the kit otherwise it will either say no HDD found or it will install on your current disk. -
Another and probably easier way is to use USBoot :

well... couldn't you remove your HDD, then put your flash drive in, then run windows setup?

From what I have heard this is still a really experimental process. People say it works on some laptops and then other people with exactly the same unit say it doesn`t. All id say is if your going to do it make sure you have your system backed up first.

Ive done this with linux.... specifically DSL, works great. I experimented with xp embedded, but was unsuccessful even after building my own. I messed around with the xp idea, but I never got to finish that project at work....
