i've got a major problem with windows on my M1530, i installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit which was working fine up until yesterday, but now i can't "click" on stuff when going through the Start menu. the menu items highlight and the menus open, but clicking on something just makes the manu disappear. as a result of this i can't start programs that way or shut-down or reboot my notebook!

so this is pretty annoying... i havn't installed anything that could cause this and i've done virus scans...

Try reinstalling the touchpad drivers I guess... Is it just the start menu? Isn't that like a Direct3D object? What happens if you turn on classic mode or something, not Aero?

..is that a joke...? reboot is through the start menu ;) i'll have to do a forced shutdown (hold-down power button) which i don't like to do because of the chance of corruption etc, but no choice by the looks. i hope that fixes it.

thanks for your reply - its not the touchpad as i've tested it with the touchpad app and clicking works, and an external usb mouse and the keyboard have the same problem with selecting things through the start menu, its a windows glitch but its really bizare....

No, if you do a ctrl+alt+del you should get the screen pop up and it will allow you to reboot your computer.

In the future, always reboot first. If you cannot click... learn how to properly use your computer. The mouse is hardly necessary.

Windows key + R (opens run box)
shutdown -r -t 0 -f (shutdown.exe with restart, time 0 seconds, force open programs to close parameters)
No need to use a mouse at all!

just cause someone doesn't know the "shutdown -r -t 0 -f" command doesn't mean they don't know a lot about computers in general. try to be more polite on the forums becuase you sound like an arrogant teenager.

Sorry, I've had a long day, but that's not an excuse for my rudeness. It was however kind of in response to your "is that a joke? reboot is through the start menu" as if atbnet should have known better, which I thought was rude. And if you don't know basic commands then you don't know a lot about computers in general, sorry.
