So Ive downloaded and gamed and browsed all at the same time before...But for some reason today my wireless adapter keeps turning itself off...And no Im not accidentally hitting the switch..I'll even toggle the switch off and back on and it still says my wireless adapter is off..Its really strange..And when I troubleshoot it says network adapter is off, check switch..the switch is on..?!?This keeps happening..A reboot fixes it or if I disable the network adapter, and then re-enable it..

Whats going on, whats causing my wireless to turn itself off? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Have you tried activating it manually via the networkcenter? (Don't know how it's called in your Windows as I am using a german version)
Maybe your switch is broken and switches automatically. But disabling it via BIOS should have done it. Well, strange problem...

Thats the thing, in the network center it says my switch is off. But my Quickset and keyboard icon show that the switch is on..I have to right click disable the adapter itself, then re-enable it and it fixes itself..I'm wondering if it has to do with this torrent Ive been downloading because it's only happened since I've started downloading it...But I dunno what about a torrent would do this as I download torrents (LEGAL ONES ;) ) frequently...

I have my power set to performance so that shouldnt be it but I went to the power settings and turned off "let windows turn off the wireless adapter when blah blah" and it hasn't shut off sense? dunno if its coincidence or not..

Torrents should not be a problem. There are some routers failing when you got too many connections open. But that does not affect your wireless lan.
Have you actually tried reinstalling the drivers?
If it's not getting better, reinstalling windows would be the last option. That should fix any problems mostly.
But at first I would advise reinstalling the driver and maybe reinstalling Quickset (I think it kind of controls the buttons?).

[EDIT] Take a look at your device manager. My wireless lan card has an energy options tab where "The Computer may shut the device off to save energy" is activated. Maybe this can help.

Well it turned off again today, the first time since I changed the power settings that I thought was the culprit.

I'm wondering if the 6200 agn card I have just turns itself off under a huge load or if gets to hot? I still get the same problem. It says my wifi switch is off no matter what I diagnose it. It happened this time while I was gaming online and downloading a torrent at the same time, something I've been able to do easily before..I wonder whats causing it to shut off..And no again, Im not even physically close to touching the switch on the laptop, so its not an accidental contact thing either...

Any ideas? turning itself off under heavy load?

I did everything you guys did as I was having the same problem with my 5300 AGN.

Updated drivers from Intel’s website not Dell’s.
    Wireless Networking

Disabled PC Power Management option for adapter in properties.

I left all Advanced properties in default setting except Transmit Power which I set to highest.

Also I went into Manage wireless networks and select the wireless network I am using, right click on it for properties and under Connection tab deselect Connect to a more preferred network if a available.

    I haven't had a disconnect since.

In my case I think my Wireless adapter may have inadvertently tried to connect to one of the other wireless networks in my list of networks even though they weren't even present, idk.

It doesn't resolve it. The problem still remains! uTorrent (1 torrent in download) + chrome (3 forums + 1 youtube) and the cards turn itself off! for re-enable it i have to go in device, disable it and re-enable it. This is a big problem!

Was this problem ever resolved or did you have to live with the wireless adapter turning itself off?

Same here, my problem still exists but only randomly on certain torrents..Hmm I wonder if that has something to do with it, like they're being tracked or something and remotely shut down...idk...this is bizarre..

I just downloaded a file at 860 kb/s and no problems. Download was cooking for 4 minutes, super quick..then no problems..Download an episode of lost and the wifi shuts off and its like 10 kb/s before it does..!?!

I have the same problem with my HP laptop running Win7. The Broadcom card would not be detected when booted. This mainly happened after a critical update. Had to do a system restore and even then it's a hit or miss. Thank goodness my m1530 hasn' been affected... yet.

I have the same problem here with 6200 card too. It turns off by itself a few times during the day. I have ordered 6300 card with the new system, i hope it will be better.

To remotely shut down a wireless lan card is pretty impossible unless someone had a real remote access to your system.
I think your hardware may have a defect. Did you call Dell about that? Seems like they are now in charge of helping you as this does not seem to be software related.

If you ordered a 6300 in first place you are to receive a 6300 as replacement. If not, escalate it to a manager and they should give you what you have ordered.

it could be due to load. My Dell Half Mini-card (twice only) disconnected when under heavy load. Not sure if im making any sense at all, but try setting Thoroughput Enhancement to Enabled, and Transmit Power to highest.

I'm still having problems with this. Its so random and bizarre. Only certain torrents cause it to turn off...Others download at full 800 kB/s - 1mB/s
I don't get it...I've read on other forums about this problem but with different hardware...So that makes me think the Intel 6200 is fine, just something wrong with utorrent?

Erm hmm, I was also thinking, may it have something to do with a crummy wifi/router? Roomate got the combo deal from time warner..router and wifi all built in one device.. I prefer the discrete cable mode and wireless router attached via cable..

Just wanted to give an update. I found a fix I think..

Found another thread that said just to roll back the drivers to the previous version which was 13.0.0.1 release in september. Installed them last night and loaded 4-5 torrents up. Went to sleep, wifi was still up and full 5bars solid.

I guess the newest driver is causing this..

I'm having sort of a problem with my SXPS 13 as well. But mine is because the touch sensitive button above the keyboard kinda gets stuck (no idea how). I keep it clean. This problem usually goes away if I reboot.

Same problem. Brand new Thinkpad x201s w/ Win7 32bit, Lenovo factory image. WiFi radio shuts off under load. Can't play reliably a youtube stream for more than 2-3 minutes. Also noticed the driver spews out a whole bunch (100-500) system events per minute. It's from NETw5s32, event IDs 5002 and 5005. No description is available for the events. Can anyone else confirm this or has information on the event IDs? Updated to the latest Intel drivers, same difference. This is driving me insane.

tenknics, what version was before you rolled back the driver?
I have the same problem on my new sony Vaio Z. I have intel 6200 card.
I must say that the problem began only after i updated the driver to 13.1.1.1.
I'm not downloading from any torret and my wifi also gets shut down.

I installed version 13.1.1.1 once again because that what sony told me and afterwards I couldn't roll back so i downloaded and install 13.0.0.107 and until now I had no disconnections.

I've been having the same problem with my Vaio EB. I actually returned my first laptop because Sony couldn't figure out what was wrong. When my second brand new laptop had the exact same problem, I looked this up. People with all different computers are having this same problem.

I installed the 13.1.1.1 driver earlier, and I thought I solved the problem, because my wifi stayed on for about 4 hours without fail. Then I shut down for a while and turned it back on later, and the wifi went off.

I just downloaded the 13.2.1.5 driver. Does this actually work? I can't deal with this problem forever. I will go insane.

Same issue with me. New Sony VPCZ1290X laptop (1 week old).
The adapter shuts off randomly in the middle of surfing pages (IE8).
Talked to Sony support 5x already. We reinstalled the adapter...updated the driver...downloaded an update to that driver...changed router and device settings and adjusted the power mgmt settings so as to not affect the connection...still no luck. I'm having them come on site next week!

    Adapter is:
    Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN
Driver is 13.1.1.1 which they keep telling me is the latest. Why wouldnt I find the .2 one?

    Any other thoughts here?

I'm having this issue with the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN in my ASUS B53J.

Some useful suggestions in this thread which I'll try - but it is so frustrating!!!!!!!!

I kept getting disconnected with 13.1.1.1, then I tried 13.3 and it seemed even worse. When I tried 13.2... so far, so good. I will let you know if it happens by the time I go to bed tonight.
