Just had my connection upgraded to 50Mb & when i connect my xps to it wirelessly i can only reach speeds of 20Mb.

I have a usb Wireless N external addaptor which gets me speeds of between 35 and 42Mb but its massive and quite unsightly.

Is it possible for me to install a wireless N adaptor to replace the one in this laptop or would i have to get a smart card slot deal?

    Thanks

i have intel 5300, i get around 7-7,5 MB/s (~50-60Mb/s). i have only 300 mbps router though, my card would support 450 mbps too so it could be faster.
also note that your router should support it and all the settings should match to enable 802.11n..

Im quite new to this router however it is configured for optimum speed as it does give the best performance through the N series usb adaptor, Looks like i`ll have to install the Intel 5300, can i buy this from dell or would ebay be my friend with this?

    Thanks for your help.

I bought the one for my D630 from ebay and it is working fine.

To increase the data rate the channel width should be set from 20MHz to auto in the driver settings when working in the 2.4GHz band.

    Thanks Tatarus,

the only one i can find on ebay was Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN 506679-001

will that one fit? , if not, whats the exact description of your card and i`ll search for that.

It won't fit. It's the full heights from HP: 533AN_MMW. You need the 533AN_HMW. Sometimes also called half heights card.
